Is it normal for the front to have less of a chicken strip than the rear?
Just inspecting my tyres after doing a left hander on the way home much better than usual. Surprisingly, there weren't any molten rubber balls falling off the very edge of the tyre scratchchin However, the 3 little pointy arrows clusters that are round the edges of the tyre are partly worn on the front tyre, and just shy of it on the rear. I don't know why this seems weird to me, but it does. What's the science?

Not too unusual and potentially a result of suspension set up and tyre profile.

Every bike ive seen has the oposite. Less of a strip on the back than on the front

The front usually shows more unused. Are the tyres matched brands with correct pressures? In my experiences from checking my pressures on different bikes, the front loses pressure first in general, so worth checking often. Just a thought.

Checked pressures last week, they're matched tyres. The only thing I can think of is that the suspension is quite spongey. Had it done by specialist but only new oil in the front forks and adjustment of the rear to my weight etc. That stopped it feeling like a pogo and made things considerably easier, but I'd still like it stiffer (Bikers Nemesis need not input his thoughts at this point). But for that it would need different parts which I haven't really wanted to do because it's ok to live with and I'm too stingey.

On both my S1000R and GSX-R track bike, I have bigger chicken strips on the front than the rear. I always thought it was due to me accelerating out of corners and loading the rear more than the front. But that's just bullst guessing!

Maybe it's too much countersteering. If only such a thing actually existed wink

It's because the front wheel Is narrower.

The profile is therefore more like a semi- circle and will have steeper sides than the rear which has more of a flatter half of an elipse profile.
Therefore more difficult to wear the front to the edges.

I'm sure the fast people on track, braking deep into corners lent over hard can get rid of front chicken strips.

My Tiger Explorer front tyre is worn to the edges while the rear still has pretty big chicken strips.

It's the first bike I've had that I've noticed this wear pattern on, and I think I'm riding it in a similar style to the others so I'm assuming it's either bike geometry or the (Metzler Torrance) tyre profile.

I'm certainly not the fast group type. More straight line hero stuff.
