Hi all. Ordering an M5 next week and finalising colour options in my head. I'm not one to subscribe to the undercover super car thing I'm more than happy for the beast to be noticed as I plod around. Had a noble a couple of years ago so I'm used to "in your face" cars so to speak.

It's on a business lease so resale isn't an issue I'm looking at the competition pack and Sakhir in and out. I've seen loads of pictures on the net but never in reality. I've spoken to a lot of dealers today trying to find one but apparently after searching their database there currently isn't a single Sakhir M5 in any main dealer in the uk.
I've got a 24hr test drive of a grey one on Monday so am driving to Canterbury in it where there is a Sakhir M3 in a showroom but with black interior. Better than nothing I suppose.

So internet pictures aside have any of you seen Sakhir on Sakhir M5 in the flesh? Even better if with comp pack and wheels. I'm probably going to go for it regardless just looking for a bit of reassurance I suppose.

Where abouts are you? There's three on Autotrader right now if you just wanted to see it in the metal.

Stevenage area, good lateral thinking there. I'd feel bad just wasting someone's time to look at it though. I may look at locations and see if they'd mind me popping by knowing that I wasn't looking to buy
Thanks for the idea

They don't need to know you're not buying it. No effort on their part for you having a look at it. They're going to expect anyone interested to have a good poke around anyway.

Looks like they're a fair trek away though. Over 150 miles from you roughly.

Yeah I just had a look, fair trek from me. Out of interest the £52,995 car on there is that standard headlights or the upgraded option. Front view looks awesome. Every time I see an orange one I'm more convinced about the decision

I know colour is totally subjective, but rather you than me. I've never liked matched interiors to exteriors so try to follow the dark outside/light inside or vice versa. Sakhir is a stunning colour for either the interior or exterior, but I think for both it would become tiresome. I went for MCB with a Sakhir interior. If i'd gone Sakhir exterior I think Silverstone would look lush, but black would also go well.

I don't think Sakhir suits the M5. For me the problem with it is the roof, other M cars have a CF roof which gives a good contrast, but with the M5 it's all a bit too much.

Have you considered an M6 or M6 GC? I have a GC in Sakhir and love it!

I agree that matching interiors are not great either, a contrast is far better, and for me a black interior sets off the Sakhir exterior best.

Yes, not close up though, one passed me going slowly in a traffic queue on the M25 a few weeks back, and I noticed the Sakir interior and thought...........oooh, nice to see someone opting for something a bit different. Looked nice. I'd order it.
And yesterday coming up the M3, a M5 in Blue (not sure if it was Monte Carlo or Tanzanite?) with Sakir interior passed me.

There is a Sakhir Orange on near me in Huddersfield. It has the 19" wheels though which I think suit the car better than the 20" (regardless of colour but that's just my opinion). The interior is Sakhir too which I think makes it too in-your-face but the exterior is definately very nice to look at.

I'd go for a black interior personally

When ordering mine I was very tempted with Sakhir having tested an M6 in that colour. IMO the 6 really suitedit , not so much The 5. In the end I kept going back to MCB with Silverstone and Piano Black , absolutely no regrets , looks stunning

This a great thread showing lots of colour choices, some superb combinations like full Nutmeg/black leather and piano black trim.

The US guys really do go to town on the options list.

Sakhir is a great colour for the interior or exterior but both together would be too much...
I think Sakhir with Silverstone looks great! Can't stand black leather/dark interiors.

The standard specs vary quite considerably by market - it seems every US car comes with the full leather which must be standard or heavily discounted as part of a pack, because I can't believe every customer there willingly jumps in and ticks an option which we pay $9k for. On the other hand I'm pretty sure HUD isn't standard there.

Ultimately it doesn't matter what their specs levels are like, I can't stand the look of those orange reflectors!!

I passed a Sakhir M5 the other day and it looked like a big lump of crazy, it was way beyond 'striking' in the sunshine!! That had what looked like a Silverstone interior and it looked like a fantastic combo in real life.

I don't think the colour matched interior/exterior look works at all, but I never have. I remember when I was looking for an E46 M3, I couldn't understand why someone would spec Laguna Seca Blue with a blue interior or Imola Red with red interior, just a bit toooo much for me.

Cheers,
Grant

Indeed spec varies they get M seats/power boot/alcantara roof lining and HK over our spec but have to option HUD as an extra, they don't get full leather, as an example the individual leather in my m5 is a $5000 option in the US, full individual leather like the nutmeg one is $7,000. Standard full leather is better value over there though they seem to be stung on the individual stuff but do better on the standard full leather compared to us.

Agreed on the reflectors, a lot seem to blank them off aftermarket.

Agree with you there which is why we went for a Sahkir interior but after nearly 2 yrs I am over it now. Silverstone is a good middle ground or even black!

Thanks for the comments although following my 24 hour test drive I've decided to go for the m4 coupe over the m5. Quite simply I don't possess the self control to own an m5. 250 miles covered average 14.8 mpg and average speed 67.8 including numerous town centres!
The car was astonishingly fast but my issue is its pretty boring up to 70mph just felt massive and heavy, then at 70 changing into 3rd it seems to have some kind of intergalactic hyperdrive warp mode. I mean seriously seriously impressive but I know for sure if I owned that car I'd be doing prison speeds every day, multiple times.
I have 2 kids and need my license. I'll be sensible and go for an m4 fully loaded with mperformance Carbon aero kit.
Much more sensible. Hats of to you lot, either for your self control or evasive abilities.
That's 250 miles I shall treasure forever!
