I have a much admired 2006 SL500 with AMG body kit and 19" standard AMG alloys
Found some SL65 AMG alloys on eBay - the darker ones with the more complex wheel
But can't decide if they look great or a bit naff !?!?
Thoughts anyone ?

Can't imagine they'd look too awful, not like you are whacking some el cheapo bodgy numbers on the car.

The SL65 style 19" split rim wheels are extremely heavy and have a massive impact on the ride, handling and performance of the car.

In that case I'll pass on them - plus are the ones I am looking at the real deal

Plus these look good to me and possibly suit the car better

Thanks for all the comments

If they are genuine they are as useful as a chocolate teapot.

I've never cracked or bent an alloy wheel in my life until I had my cls with those rims.

I've a full set of those rims that have multiple cracks and repairs by the previous owner and the latest set I'm using now about 18 months are starting to fail. I had to have one of my fronts welded last week and I suspect one of my rears is cracked due to slowly losing air pressure.

In that case I am not changing

I had split rims on my last SL and after a year that began to corrode

Nice idea but have just saved myself £1750

What a let down.

Glad to have helped!

Not sure whether its the weight of the CLS and the high offsets of the rims (et25 front and et28 rear) which contribute to the damage or whether its simply the quality of the wheels. The first time i went in to the tyre depot thinking i had a slow puncture the guy said ill bet the rims cracked before i even take the wheel off. It seems its pretty common for BMW and Mercedes wheels to fail like this.

Coincidentally im going today to hopefully get a new set of wheel fitted to the car if they have come into stock.

They are similar in style to the AMG wheel with the concave wider rear.

Must admit they do look amazing on that era of SL.

We all see things differently.
To my eyes the fussy design & more importantly the colour is completely at odds with the rest of the car, a discordant note that detracts from the classy smooth lines of the bodywork & the chrome detailing. Sorry but it screams home made DIY mod.

See an SL65 around my way regularly and it has those wheels, looks fantastic in my opinion!
