Straightened Throttle Plate
Discussion
Hi All
In my trawling though the forum, I came across a mod to the throttle plate to take the dog leg out and make it a straight cut.
Can someone clear up what this mod is for? I take it it makes for a linear throttle progression, rather than having that 'little bit extra' at the end of the pedal?
If this is the case, I can see the benefit, but not what it was for in the first place! Was it TVR's idea of traction control!?
I would be interested in having this done, but would like to understand it a bit better.
Thanks

I think the dog leg was to improve drivability in normal and town driving, it probably helped fuel economy as well. I personally never liked the sudden power surge at three quarter throttle and much prefer the progressive throttle. If you think back to cars with twin choke carbs, many of these ran on the first choke until you pressed hard and the second one opened to give you the power. In my trawling though the forum, I came across a mod to the throttle plate to take the dog leg out and make it a straight cut.

Samy came with one fitted. Bought a spare plenum which came with one so fitted it to the Reserve.
Alan461 offered to mod one for me. I have a spare banana one that I'm happy to pass on this spare to be modded to start a 'chain letter' of modded plates. As long as one comes back to me.

Is there a possibility I could have one made up like that? It would be most appreciated.
Less is more!
This one really does feel quick to respond, same distance pedal travel but instant throttle opening from the first movement of the pedal. This is reversible as yet, I'm going to give it a try before making it permanent.
Going to have to do the Magpies pedal stop mod otherwise the throttle position sensor might get trashed as the butterfly goes over square, and sooner or later the cable is going to snap.
Mick if you see this can you put a photo on?

The idea is to make the throttle area proportional to the pedal movement. A small change in the angle of the throttle plate makes a huge difference when it's nearly closed and next to no difference when it's nearly fully open. If the angle of the plate is proportional to the movement of the pedal then at low revs driving around town in traffic you've got very little movement between nothing and effective full throttle.I guess TVR overdid it from the number of people who seem to want to change it.

Even with the straight slot the throttle opening is not linear, once you get past half throttle the butterfly opens quicker as the pedal is pressed.
So why not junk the slotted plate altogether and do what Alan has done?it looks like it could be a way to dispense with the whole assemby and have very linear connection with the butterfly.
The tiny ball and socket was cut from the old mechanism and bolted direct to the throttle, it's simple to do.
The more important bit was making a bracket to anchor the outer cable but again not difficult.
No new parts were used in any of this just joined the old bits together differently
I could do with some opinions on this, it might be a useful mod.
Please discuss...
