Only just getting the car back on the road after some issues, and now the Speedo has stopped!

Where to look? Behind the dash or under the car for the senrer unit?

The sender unit is located on the diff (offside) by the driveshaft output

it should look like this ....

this connects to one of TVR's famous little black boxes that lives under the dash, you can check the output of the sender with a multimeter before dismantling the dash.

If you do get into the dash then it is worthwhile checking all the connections at the speedo as it may just be a loose earth etc.

I pulled one of the senders to bits to see why it failed- after all its just a coil of wire surrounding a magnet. It turned out water had got down the core and caused enough corrosion inside for the wires that lead in to it to detach from the copper winding inside, so it went open circuit. You can do a simple test with a meter across the connection in ohms to check for continuity- I dont recollect the value, but Id guess at less than 100 ohms as its just copper wire. It will be pretty obvious if its open circuit.

My Speedo stopped. The "Bible " recommended cleaning the pickup cable connector as the first thing to try. Checked mine and the connector pins were corroded. Cleaned them up. Worked a treat.smile

My speedo has started jumping and reads 10-12 mph to high,, I've just had the Mbe ecu install at Powers, I'm hoping it's just a bad connections/earth,, there going to look at it as its possibly causing a misfire whilst mapping my car on the rollers,,
I'll respond on here when I have more info smile

Thanks all,

My old girl is way over the 100k mark. Looks like I'll be getting under the car soon with the multi meter.

She hasn't missed to many beats in 17 years, but doesn't like not being driven, so this is one of here complaints. The fuel guage is the other (at least the reserve light still works). But I might stick a small can of juice in the boot just in case.
