I am used to iOS and 32 or 64GB memory, however I recently bought an Asus Android tablet with 8 GB for my 4 year old.

Am I being a numbnutz here ? i have installed a 32GB SD card, what I am finding is half of the internal memory is used for built in apps that are not used and when I download apps / games for her there is never enough memory.

There are only 7 apps that I have put on it so when I want a new one I have to delete one. Any apps that can be moved from internal storage to external storage t have done.

New apps will not go to external memory, is this about right or is something amiss ?

Any thoughts on this please ?

what android version does it run?
If its less than about android 4.4.2 i dont think you can run apps from the memory card.

My new tablet is 32gb and many out there now are 64

My old samsung galaxy tab 2 is 8gb and runs pretty well with loads of applications

What version of android? Generally, if you can see the card, you :-) put apps on it.

On the other hand, its for a 4 year old, and was presumably cheap as chips. If you are wise, you spent as much on an decent rubbery case as the device, so what are you expecting?

Isn't that the other way round? I always used to be able to put apps on the card but can't any more, though looking I am on version 4.3 now (and there are no system updates available) so maybe I bought a phone in the time when they disabled it confused

Sorry it should say versions later than 4.4

OP as i said my old samsung was running 8gb just fine with plenty of apps and it could not load apps onto the card, maybe something is awry with yours.
You are closing apps when not in use?

Just for future reference, when I turn the tablet off, do all apps close down ?

Yep, little point in it I'm afraid. Really can't install much apps. SD slot is fine for pictures, music and movies, but generally too slow to run apps off.

Sorry to say, it sounds like you underbought for your intended use.

Any app not currently active on screen is suspended and not taking memory/cpu. Though lots run services now, you can tame some of this by disabling them in the apps section of settings.

Dont confuse ram ( which is cpu memory for working with, usually 1/2 gig to 2 gig) with the storage memory which is 8gb on your device.

Theres an app , app2sd which allows you to move most things to the SD card even if android itself doesnt.
