Shed estate has been on sale for two weeks. Priced under a grand - valeted, tonnes of work done, a really decent car.

So it begins - most of them clearly driveway dealers, 2 passive aggressive "do me a favour bruv wot's ya best price innit i'll come up wiv me mates now yeah" types and one gentleman offering to pay by cheque and that God honoured this cheque and I could trust it was real and not a scam (his actual words).

I live outside London but not far from some other major towns that PH can make various assumptions about.

So... where else can I put it up for sale? Are the PH classifieds any better? I fear I may just dump it on WBAC to avoid this hassle. Shame as it's a good car but I cannot under any circumstances be dealing with chancers on my doorstep and frankly my evenings are worth more. One guy was furious I was inside his search zone but not in his county and that I wouldn't leave work to show him the car RIGHT NOW and for £400 less than it was up for.

Should I just accept defeat? Doesn't seem to be anybody out there who isn't expecting the world or bent as b@*llocks.

Never understood the logic behind wanting to sell it to someone because its a good car. Just let WBAC buy it off you without the hassle.

eBay, no reserve, £1 start.

I've sold a couple of cars this way, one shed (all faults listed) and one half decent (£3,000 BMW 330i).

No hassles, no test drives, no calls. Just someone turning up with cash and driving off.

no, put your price up by £500

this will sort the wheat from the chaf, and will give you room to negotiate without affecting what you originally wanted for it.

Simples

(worked 100% for me over last 2 car sales)

Because WBAC are offering half what it "could" get on auto trader? However, money vs hassle I agree WBAC will likely get it.

You know what... I'm gonna do that thanks. Just wary of someone winning and then not turning up. had that happen years ago.

Ebay no reserve, list accurately and clearly warn about no haggling etc. You still might get morons and no shows.

I've sold a few through a local auction (not BCA) with decent results as well. They will give you a good idea what to expect. Very easy.

At the lower end of the spectrum I agree, ebay is good. At a quid you get lots of people looking then getting emotionally attached so bidding higher than they originally intended..

Yup seems to be the way to do it. I'm not trying to make money or even recoup money, but there's a £500 difference between WBAC and private and I would like to get maybe halfway between as it would fund the kiddie's mobile phone demand for a xmas present. Also, I believe in karma and I like the idea of the car going to someone who needs it and would appreciate it. Idealistic I realise!

This. And use a PAYG SIM if you dont want to be bothered by window lickers asking what your best price is, not reading the auction details, etc. When its finished, put the SIM in the bin and job jobbed.

I've sold cheaper cars on ebay and avoided the auction idiots by placing a classified ad' instead.

Unfortunately the classified ads suggestion isnt bullet proof both the cars I was selling a couple of months ago were classifieds, still got the usual suspects phoning and texting with stupidly low offers.

As I said earlier - putting the price up actually brought better quality enquirers and led to sales with 48 hours on both cars (plus left me more room to haggle - but ultimately I sold both for more than I was prepared to accept orginally)
