I may have a chance to go to the Barcelona GP in 2016. Any suggestions on somewhere good to stay ? Is getting from central Barcelona to the circuit fairly easy ? Any suggestions or advice much appreciated.

I went the year before last. Stayed in Barcelona and caught the train to Montmelo every day (cost was only a few Euros from memory). You can then either get a bus to the circuit or walk which takes about 20-30 minutes.

The walk takes you through the town, where there are bars, shops and stalls with F1 stuff for sale, which all adds to the feel of the weekend.

Six of us went last year, we rented an apartment in the city centre which was spot on. We got a minibus to and from the track every day but it was a bit of a messy weekend so I can't remember the cost but I think it took around 30 minutes to get there.

For the last few years my 21 year old son and myself have had 4 day Leger coach holidays to a European Grand Prix that cost about £800 in total and consisted a long coach journey each ways,3 nights in a 4 star hotel and about a hour and a half each way by coach to qualifying and the race.I am a bit fed up with going by coach so want to do it a different way.

We fancy going to the Spanish GP as we have not been there before and would like to make it a bit of a relaxing holiday as well.I have not booked anything yet as I will wait until the F1 schedule is confirmed by the FIA which I think is usually in December.

The basic plan is to go for two weeks, depart the UK on 9th May and return on the 23rd May.(The Grand Prix should be during the middle weekend 15th May.Stay in a 3 or 4 star hotel half board in Costa Brava somewhere like loret, pineda etc that seams fairly near the circuit.Total cost looks about £900 excluding the cost of tickets that seams good value to me.

My main questions are has anybody done the same and stayed at a beach resort as apposed to a Barcelona Hotel, what is it like getting to the circuit and where is the best place to buy weekend tickets for the race.

I went to Barcelona for the Grand Prix back in 2011 and had an absolutely fantastic weekend. The weather was great(a variable of course) and the viewing in general admission was excellent, as were the circuit facilities - bars/food.

We stayed in an apartment in central Barcelona and got the train to the circuit - it must have been Montmelo station as mentioned above - and then walked from the station. There were plenty of people taking this route and we enjoyed it; as has also been said, there are bars etc. in the town along the route.

I heard during this year's F1 commentary, that in accordance with the Spanish code for sale of alcohol at sporting events, the circuit no longer sells alcoholic drinks - I'm not sure if this is accurate or not; a cursory glance online at the time confirmed that there is some such code but didn't specifically mention F1.

Looks like it was a licensing oversight in 2015: http://f1destinations.com/alcohol-ban-2015-spanish...

Phew.

And not that it matters, but I was there in 2013, not 2011 smash

Even with the special offer the general admission tickets for three days are a little cheaper on other sites as I have seen £75 and £80 per ticket.

Thanks and good that you had a fantastic weekend.Over the years I have always done a long weekend (Fri-Mon)to watch a Grand Prix but this year as I retired last year at 55 so time is not an issue and that Barcelona is on the coast I could combine a two week beach holiday with three days of F1 in the middle of the holiday.I dont think there will be much difference in overall price compared with a long weekend in a central Barcelona hotel so would rather have the lomger and more relaxing option.

Looks like the circuit is about 30 miles from where we will be staying so should be easy to get to by Train,Bus or Taxi.

The ban on alcohol would not bother me but surprised the circuit did not get the correct licence as selling alcohol is probably their second best money stream and never a good idea to pi55 of the fans.

Ideally I want to book it all now but the FIA have not confirmed the schedule yet which I think they normally do in December so do I wait for that but the only change in my opinion is if the European GP (Azerbaijan) is on or off but cannot see the Spanish GP date changing.
