Performance Car Show - Is it worth taking my 10yr old lad?
Discussion
My car-mad son has been begging me to take him to "a car show" for the last couple of years. He's obsessed with supercars (and Top Gear) so I thought the most suitable event to take him to would be the Performance Car Show. The problem is whilst digging around I've read quite a bit on here and elsewhere that's it's actually not as good as it once was.
So my question is whether it's worth taking my 10yr old (and his best mate) to this show or are there better places/events to take him to?

A good start would be this weekend, at the NEC great classic car show.
Took my son to LeMans, when he was 7 years old still going each year now.
Sounds good but tbh with his weekend sporting activities we have to plan some way ahead. Took my son to LeMans, when he was 7 years old still going each year now.
Tbh, he's not actually into motorsport, more supercars and hypercars and (pre Chris Ev*ns) Top Gear. Took him to the BTCC at Outlon this year and he spent the whole time wandering around the grass infield taking pictures of every 'smart' car him and his mate could find, hardly watched the racing.
Reckon a show where there are Supercars might well do the trick. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't an expensive rip-off or utter garbage. Had also read that the Live Shows aren't that good either.

Take him to a supercar event like Wilton house for example
Thanks, that looks great. We're in Cheshire so a bit of a trek but might well be worth the trip next year. Apart from the Pageant of Power are there any other supercar-type events in and around the North or Midlands? You missed the Wilmslow Motor Show, which was good. But I would suggest a good start would be to take him along to the showrooms. Ferrari and Porsche are next to each other, usually have some very interesting stuff in and are very friendly. Especially if your son likes to ask questions and chat about the cars there that is a huge hint, by the way).
I took mini wijit to the Performance Car Show a couple of years ago and was decidedly disappointed, however, there are some interesting exhibits lined up this time, so it might be worth going. There are some serious supercars even among the race cars, I believe even an LaF.

I dont see many upcomming Supercar events over the winter months, but if your son is a supercar fan a subscition to SCD as a fan member, might make a nice treat?

If he likes Super cars then 'The Super Car Event' is the one for him. 100+ super cars at full chat around the Top Gear test track. It's in July next year so a little way off but worth bookmarking. You can also pay a donation to go in the cars and go round the track.
EDIT: I believe there are plans a foot to do another similar event at Cadwell park, with the same format called 'The Dream Car Event' but I can't confirm this.
it's not all for the kids, you might enjoy it too! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQLj3ZfDa0s

I can recommend the Supercar event as above. I support with the Caterham group (video below of me messing about) but for my son who has joined me for the past 4 years he loves it (he's now 12). He saves up pocket money and I match half the money so he gets to choose a "hyper car" to go in. That's right....GO IN. Not just look at. It's all for a Childrns Charity aswell so your money is going to a great cause. All the drivers provide their time, tyres, fuel for free.
So far over the 4 years he's done a Zonda, Enzo, Aventador & McLaren 650s Spider around the track, and sat in a Ferrari 599.

The Supercar Event is absolutely nailed on for next year, it will absolutely fry my sons mind. If he got to go in one too it would make his year. I just didn't know such an event was on.
Few Q's:
- Does it ever sell out? Was thinking about hanging on until the week to choose the best day weather wise. We're 4hrs drive away in Cheshire.
- How much does it costs to get a few laps in a supercar?
- Can you choose the supercar you go for a ride in?
I'm also thinking I might take him on a trip to the Geneva motor show next March. He loves the Veyron and the new one version, the Chiron is to be unveiled there. Has anyone ever been there? On the face of it looks good. Cheap entry tickets, cheap Easyjet flights, reasonable hotel rates.

Prices here for the supercar event - there is a discount if you book before NYE. Also, entry tickets usually appear on Groupon in late May / early June which can save you more than the earlybird priced. The Supercar Event is absolutely nailed on for next year, it will absolutely fry my sons mind. Yes, you can choose ( to an extent ) the car you want to go in but it's twice the price. Might be worth it for your lad of course.
And yes, it does sell out. We're local so it's no trek but if the weather doesn't play ball it's not as much fun

There is also a similar event to the supercar event this year at Croft which will only be a few hours away for you. It's called http://thedreamcarevent.com and is run by one of the gents who arranges the supercar event. I would suggest going to both, you will not reget it. Cost is about £30 from memory and you do get to choose from what ever is at the front of the pack. You can pay more to have a specific car. 100% of that £30 goes to charity. - Does it ever sell out?
