Looking at ditching RFT from BMW. PSS raved about, but heard not great unless warm / dry. CS5 a better all round tyre?

I read the Evo tyre test, but they put PS3 in rather than PSS??!

I've been using PSS for a couple of years on 2 cars. I have not observed any particular issues with them when cold and they're superb in the wet. When the road temperature is near icing conditions they're not so good, but if CS5s are good in summer I can't imagine they'd excel in winter tyre conditions either?

I haven't used CS5s but I'm sure you'd be very happy with either. smile

Isn't the CS6 out now? I've heard it's a decent improvement over the CS5.

I haven't noticed any issues with PSS in the damp/wet.

I saw an EVO headline, but wasn't sure.

Had PSS on my R32 and liked them, but that of course has more traction than a 135i..

If you want an all-rounder, the Eagle F1 is very good and tends to fair better in reviews than the CS5 (which I haven't tried). The F1 has softish side-walls, whether that's a good or bad thing depends on your preferences and the car.

I can't say I've ever noticed a lack of cold grip with the PSS, though. Perhaps that's because I'm used to AD07s which have absolutely no grip when cold. biggrin

Can generally find Eagle F1's a bit cheaper than CS5's too

I'm also looking to replace runflats on my 3 series, leaning towards the Eagle F1 Asym 2 as these seem like a good all rounder and are at the comfier end of the "sport" tyres.

The F1s and the PS3s are due for a replacement next year, the PS4 is out from Jan:

ETA: the CS5 don't seem to wear well, CS6 are meant to be better.

CS6 is a much nicer feeling tyre than the CS5, but I fear it might still wear on the quick side.

I've got Pilot Sport 3's on my car, and they're better than the continentals I had previously. The PSS' must be even better again.

I do prob 200 - 300 miles per month, so new tyres might wait. Got a Birds B1 kit on horizon

I've not tried the Continentals but have had no issues with Goodyear F1. For choice I buy Michelin Pilot Sport - love those tyres.

I had both Conti 5P's (not CSC 5's) and Michelin PSS on my M3CS. Both great tyres, but the PSS was harder wearing. Conti had better wet grip. Wifes Audi has CSC5's and they do wear out quite quickly. Had Eagle F1's on my 335i and they've been a great tyre. Would use any of the above again, but probably favour the Michelin.

The PSS on my Z4MC didn't seem to have any issues at 2 degrees (air temp) on the Nurburgring last month, and most of the cars there that weren't on track rubber were on PSS.

I swear by the Sport Contacts on my daily hack. Obviously they have a slightly softer sidewall than a more sport focussed tyre like the Eagle F1 (softer compound), MPSS (have these on two other cars) etc, but they wear well and wet weather grip is superb. Road noise seems OK - quieter than a Bridgestone equivalent they replaced.

To echo other's comments, the PSS have been superb. Comfortable, hard wearing and great performance.

Looks like I'll ditch RFT for some PSS then sooner than later!

Birds B1 suspension on list too

What car is this for and which RFT at the mo'?

Unfortunately PSS are not in my size else I'd probably go for them.
