So my rocker covers are looking rather tatty few spots of surface rust, i was after some of these

but when i go to order it says 'breather hole size' confused just wondering if someone could help me out, im ordering for my S1 V6 2.8 a pre-christmas treat, has anyone ordered from this place, if so do they fit ok? easy to do yourself?

Had a set of these on my Essex engine, nice, fit first time no messing.

Don't know about 2.8 but I know you need to mod the alternator bracket for the 2.9 see I also think the 2.8 is a different shape and has less locating holes

Black ones look like they are for a 2.8, only 3 screw holes visible


(Yellow are for the older Essex V6)




Breather hole size is perhaps for the PCV valve?

25mm, but check elsewhere before ordering!

Cheers guys, yeah I did notice there's something running into the one rocker cover, hmm 25mm ill double check, would I need new rocker cover gaskets when changing them over?

Yes.



The ones on your car, whether nearly new or as old as the car, will have been deformed by the tin covers.

I bought a set of these - email the chap - he is very helpful. I ordered through his website but sent a note asking him to contact me, and sorted everything out over email.

Re. breather hole size - it is for the PCV. I decided in the end to have them made without a hole so I could decide later and either drill my own in the 'blank' or go the philpot route and put a hole in the end closest to the bulk head instead so as not to need the PCV tubing running right across the shiny new covers! He'll also do anything you like on the design if he has the moulds - I requested the 2 logo's of the car and engine manufacturer smile

I did ask if he could put the blank at the other end, like this: but that was a no. Comparison with originals below.

2.8 and 2.9 are 'the same' except for the need to drill one fixing hole i believe. My Ford ones put the breather hole somewhat closer to the bulkhead.

Hi Steve,
I'm just catching up on here, been too busy for a couple of days.

As has been said, the footprint of the 2.8 and 2.9 V6 Cologne rocker covers is the same, but the 2.9 has an extra drilling for the securing screws, total 8 in each cover as opposed to the 2.8's 7 screws. I would recommend fitting with stainless cap screws, much neater.
Yes, you will have to renew the gaskets, also the alternator mounting bracket will need altering to avoid fouling the alloy covers. This will involve chopping, re-shaping and welding to suit. This will also necessitate a different length drive belt.

The filler/ breather stub pipe on the nearside alloy cover will be lower down and close to the bulkhead, so this may be a problem that would need sorting out.

Richard ( greymrj on here) has done this on his S1.
Hopefully he can advise you of the changes he made.
I'm not sure how he addressed the PCV issue on the offside cover.

PS The yellow ones you show will NOT fit, They are for the earlier 3.0 Essex engine.

The ones in the original photo don't appear to have a "lug" to drill the eighth hole in so are perhaps 2.8 specific?

@AndrewS2 they look really neat! did you get the sandblasted or smooth finish? (think it was extra ££)

yeah they are 2.8 specific, the yellow ones were just to show them with the 'TVR' logo on thats all. Im not confident about altering brackets.. chopping, reshaping, welding eek
ill see if i can get someone to sort them out for me in the near future (for some tea, biscuits may even throw in a protein shake & a few shillings biggrin)

I ordered a set of these from JR Cast a couple months back. 2.9 V6 The hole I had put in for the breather was Dia. 25mm As it's at the other end of the rocker cover on the cast units compared to nearer the bulkhead on the original TVR rocker covers you need to run a new bit of breather hose, but I replaced all my hoses anyway and so this was no issue. Fitted fine first time and have been on the car for a month now and no leaks. Very pleased with them.

tempted to go ahead & order these right now, the smooth finish with 'TVR' logo looks great also noticed they come with stainless steel fitting bolts too, so would it be worth me having the 25mm breather hole already put in? there is an option on jrcast website on the dropdown menu

Yep mine came with the 25mm breather hole in and I bought a new rubber grommet which fitted perfectly. (Mines on a 2.9 V6 though). So will you go with the TVR and Ford logos like Andrews or the TVR V6 like mine or something else?

i shall follow suit & get the 'TVR V6' like yours, im putting off ordering them till next year (i think) as im going to get the alternator bracket modified first sometime in the new year, and ive had abit of a spend recently.. new gaz gold shocks & custom made cherrybombs rolleyes

I thought you'd covered them with black and white wooly material for a moment, but it was just the picture opening a bit slowly.
I presume that's a powder coat finish, looks good.

laugh zebra coded engine bay, i recon glenn would!
Yep sandblasted & powdercoated in a 'POWDER CHROME' finish at my local wheel place http://www.alloyrefurbs.co.uk/ thinking about getting my oz split rims done in a 'metal look' finish before the pitting gets worse hmm
Back to the rocker covers.. Tidies them up for £50 in oppose to £166 from jrcast and modifying alternator bracket, I should of bartered for £40 but the finish is superb so all credit to them
