I've been commuting for decades from SW19 to the City, 11 miles.

It took me 53mins travelling time to get in this morning. Road works everywhere, roads closed, temporary traffic lights and swarms of cyclists.

There does not appear to be any end in sight particularly with Boris's super highway seeming to take for ever.

Does anyone else get the feeling there's a conspiracy against us

It took me longer than normal today due to the fact the battery on the bike didn't want to play. 30 mins on fast charge and all was good, but traffic had built up in this time.

I was surprised how many drivers couldn't be arsed to scrape their windows this morning

I got held up for about 1 mile this morning behind a lorry.

I was absolutely furious

Conversely, my commute from Essex to WC1 was quieter than normal, the only hold up was the Boris highway works at Aldgate, but that gave the perfect opportunity to thaw out my hands on the engine.

Sorry to hear that BN. How awful.

Did it give you enough time for another tab?

Less, through road tax they'd all actually be contributing financially to maintenance and development of the road network, with this added investment the road network would be vastly superior to it is now and we would all be at work in half the time.

Most will own cars anyway, so they will be contributing to the infrastructure but also leaving it free when they can, such as commuting time when it really counts.

TBF we've all played, icy windscreen.

You sit in the car freezing your arse off till there is a 50p sized hole in the sheet of ice that now covers your windscreen. This is typically right down at the bding bottom of it. You have to start driving with your head a 90 degree angle like animal from the Muppets and within an inch of the centre console.

You take off thinking, "fk it, cant be that hard", only to realise its like driving that bding dumper truck that featured in the space level on the crystal maze. You try screen wash, wipers on full, heating to max and even open the passenger windows.

Unless you have just about any ford from 2006 or so onwards. Then you just hit the heated windscreen button.

Should be mandatory fitment by now.

I had the heated grips and seat on this morning. Fine for the A3 but ended up too hot after 10mins of stop/start heavy traffic. Except my two clutch fingers, which froze.

Had it on a '92 Ford.

I keep thinking of making a heated seat on the bike, that'd keep my core warm etc.

Surrey to Canary Wharf for me.
Go over Southwark Bridge - Usually Empty Friday and Today nose to tail cars due to all the roadworks on Lower Thames Street and up near the Tower of London. Plsu Aurther Street is closed as they are building near it.

Its been like it for well over 6 months for Boris Cycle "superhighway" How long does it take to put a bike lane in !!

The fun part is filtering past all the cars on the brige - but making sure you dont get a muppet who does a u turn !

My commute this morning was lighter traffic than usual which is strange, I'm guessing tomorrow will be back to normal.
Been avoiding the north of the river route to work (east to central) for the past couple of months now until the superhighway is done. So its good old nose to tail (but still faster moving) Rotherhithe tunnel/Jamaica road peak time again.

See this article proving average traffic speeds in London have dropped hugely, not that we needed someone to tell us.

Bedroom to kitchen to bathroom to bedroom to office, about 40 mins with a coffee and a quick read of the news headlines.

It's not all rosey, usually once a week/10 days it's A50 or M6, followed by M1 and A414 to A1 or whatever route the sat nav chooses for me based on congestion. 3 hours minimum each direction plus 6 hours in the office.

I'd still rather do this every week than live in London, I don't know how you put up with it.
