Afternoon, as per a previous thread I am on the cusp of getting the 2016 MY ZZR1400 Performance Sport (just awaiting final pricing to be released) and then I get a call to see if I would be interested in the above with £1000 off. I am not sure they are really my cup of tea but anyone got one, ridden one or has a view, I can have an extended test ride whenever I want one but still seems a little salty at £15k or value for money given its bag or electronic tricks?

I think Silver993T has one? Bought from Germany at a significant discount I recall.
Interesting they're knocking a Grand off, can't be shifting like they hoped. They're not doing well here either to be honest.

I've ridden one as a try out after my 1190 Adv.
Very good bike the 1290, much improved over the 1190 but it's such a different proposition to the ZZR I'm not sure you can really compare against the two.
It comes down to what kind of riding you do, whether you fancy the Big Trailie Adv type bike with a whiff of the Charlie & Ewan about it and whilst it goes really well, it won't hold a candle to the warp drive of the big green machine.

Test, test, test.. Only way to tell.

I had sports bikes for years, I sold a fireblade for a speed triple in 2011, after wanting a more touring capable bike I bough a multistrada gt, which I absolutely loved riding when there wasn't a fault with it!!!! I came back from touring Europe and couldn't stand the problems I had with it so traded it in for a k1300s with panniers, great bike, I've got 2 mates with zzr14s
And have ridden them and loved those as well!!!!. but.... I never enjoyed the k13 as much as I did the multistrada for doing twistys, tourin etc etc, the seating position at first feels strange coming from more sporty bikes but you soon get used to it and you really start to gel with the seating position and wide bars. So this year I tested the new multi, the ktm 1290 as and the versys1000, I thought they were all amazing , the multistrada I wouldn't get again out of principle as the dealers were ste. The ktm was a weapon! Very comfy, very fast, great suspension etc etc, but for me I couldn't warrant 16k for it at the time as I have just bought a new enduro bike. I plumped for the versys GT which has all the kit, nothing like the power of the ktm, But it was 10k......you pays your money and all that!!!
Test one on a varied decent route for a few hours and you will love it!

Thanks guys, appreciate they are chalk and cheese and I'm really not sure the KTM is or will be for me and hadn't even considered the Versys! So may give that a go too, but I'm still erring towards the 14 as I've ridden that and it is awesome but I was looking for something to go with the S1000RR and the 14 may be too similar albeit more comfy experience.

The 1290 engine is just silly. Have a go on it.

Get a 2 year old KTM 1290 for way less, the one with 180 bhp. I forget the model name and designation for now, but it's the street fighter. 1301cc of immense shove and to be honest it made some of my big Ducatis feel utterly gutless. As a bike to use for many reasons it's amazing.

Bloody hell, pack it in you're just giving me more choices but that is nice, I'm not at all keen on the SA's looks I was considering it on ability really (and my lack of it !) but that does look good, even with the panniers. I'm going to try the SA in the next few weeks as soon as I get time, and the Superduke if they have one but the ZZR14 is still the favourite

If I had the money I'd buy a 1290 SD GT in a heartbeat, it's my perfect bike. Semi-naked mental fun yet with long distance comfort and practicality. Waft down to the Alps in comfort, whip off the panniers and have loads of fun on the twisties once there. The 1290 SA is a big old beasty...
