Hope not! But I thought it was a slightly too good to be true- I mean clearly the thing has lived on the motorway, the front bumper is peppered somewhat! But it seemed much better value than any of the A3s and Golfs out there. Its not german I guess so not interesthing enough for folk?anonymous said:

It's the Ford/PSA engine. But some people seem to think the Volvo version is better:

I have one with the 1.6 engine and have done over 50k miles in the last 2 years so it is now on 85k miles. Had no problems with it in that time, I always change the oil and filter every 6k miles or so as I read about the problems however I think the ones with problems aren't serviced regularly. Only thing I had done to mine was dpf delete by shark performance as the dpf is a service item at 75k miles and Volvo wanted around £1,000 for the service. It runs even better since this has been done better performance and improved fuel economy.
Give it a full service and have a read on volvo forums to find the typical weak points with age and have them checked out. I'm a big fan of given any new car a full change of filters and oil so i have a base line for servicing and i know exactly what's been done and the quality of parts used.
As said, given it's age and mileage, it's had a life of going up and down motorways most likely.
Arguably the easiest habitat for a car, steady speeds, everything at operating temperature and no real potholes etc to run over.
Run it, keep it serviced and it will be fine.

I've had a V50 1.6D from new 3 and bit years ago, now on 103K miles, and no issues to report so far. Since the warranty expired (60K miles), it's been serviced locally, and very cost-effectively, but the big one (belt change is at 150K). My car does a lot of long journeys and my type of driving suits a TDi so hopefully I won't have any of the issues that seem to plague less used cars!
Good luck with the C30
Good luck with the C30
1.6 PSA lump is a decent diesel engine it just is a bit needy with servicing.
Service it every 7 or 8k and it will likely not give you any of the sludging issues.
Only thing I plan to swap on ours is when its around 100K there is a filter/gauze at the base of the turbo oil pick up that can sludge up and cause turbos to munch themselves.
4K seems like a steel though!

Thanks for that. It was cheap but was hardly what you'd call mint! Stonechipped to buggery and the small scratch but all electrics worked, serviced on time so reckoned it was worth it. It's a newish car that I don't really have to care much about bodyworkwise which is just what I was after!Service it every 7 or 8k and it will likely not give you any of the sludging issues.

bungz, are the sludging issues related to oil type (like the old Saabs were) or just in general, or certain MY engines? Mine gets a service every 4 to 5 months, should I still get the filter/gauze changed as a precaution, just wondering, as I'd like to see a painless 250K milesService it every 7 or 8k and it will likely not give you any of the sludging issues.
