Hey folks, I have a new scirocco r which is doing some heavy blacking on the exhaust tips yet I have only done 500 miles in it. Not sure if this is normal confused and as for the fuel I am currently running on v power nitro 99

can anyone help? Also if this is normal, some good cleaning product suggestions would be great wink

It's pretty normal. I tend to spray some AG Engine Degreaser on the exhaust tips while I'm washing the car, then polish with Autosol and wire wool. It pays to keep on top of it as heavy build up can be hard to remove.

Great stuff. Hearing good things about autosol from several sources so I've ordered some. Consider it sorted!

Just watch the oil consumption. They can drink it initially - and heavy sooting is one symptom.

It's completely normal OP - I just leave mine black as I can't be bothered to keep cleaning them.

Also, unless you do a significant amount of motorway driving, the right tip will be less sooted than the left because of the way the valved exhaust system works - this being most notable on the new 4-pot VAG cars with 4 exhausts where the inner tip on each side is less sooted than the outer one.

Nice car by the way!

Yep... very normal on the TFSI engines. However, I solved this problem very easily....

Black Camcoated tips. :-)

So after some sound advice, I got wd40 with a brillo sponge style pad and sprayed down the exhausts then gave them a good scrub. Then I used autosol metal polish with a microfiber cloth, Light application and wiped down the remaining marks. This left a high shine and some very clean exhaust pipes! Would recommend this method as it seems to have worked a treat. I'm guessing wire wool would be for heaver soiled exhausts. Thanks.

You shouldn't need anything abrasive , wire wool if its really bad and hasnt been cleaned for years

I use these polishes , the green one if its really bad then the white one but usually the white one is sufficient , used with a microfibre
