Looking to purchase my next house and everything is a joke!

I don't want to bankrupt my self, so setting a max budget of about £600k

For this, it must be located in Berkshire, ideally not too far from the M4. Detached with 4+ bedrooms. I also want a PH suitable garage and drive way. And not on a main road.

Given the budget, this should not be too hard to achieve. But i cant find anything out there even remotely worthy of spending this kind of wonga on.

Cheaper "Fixer upper" homes will be considered too.

To the PH collective, Help!

Perfectly nice but it must be heartbreaking to have to spend over half a million on something that is just perfectly nice frown.

I'm glad I don't live down south.

I think, if im honest. Thats a big part of the problem for me. It's nice, bit it aint 600k nice...

I'm tempted to move a little further north, but mu commute is already long enough and working in IT, i really need to stay on the M4 corridor.

I have also lived in this area all my life, and have family around.

I'm sure I've seen you on one of those property programmes - you're the one with the massive shopping list of requirements and no realistic idea of what's available in your price range, who ends up not buying anything smile

You either need to:
1. move somewhere cheaper
2. earn more money
3. wait for a recession
4. tailor your expectations to your budget

Try Marlborough or one of the surrounding villages - cheaper homes in Wiltshire and only 8 miles from Hungerford.

Ha, that house is a couple of minutes walk from us as well.

Where do you work and how long are you willing to commute ? Just keep going down the M4 till you hit the cheapness/time trade off point...

Just outside Marlborough is Great Bedwyn. There is a station there and seems a nice place.

Small garden
Not very nice bathroom
Terrible traffic in that area
Rather prone to flooding

We were in a similar situation. Location was the highest priority. The only way we could get the right house was to compromise on condition. So we bought a doer uper in our perfect location. Yes we have years of work to do but we are very happy indeed, and the value of the house will outstrip most others in surrounding area. I had to beat off 2 developers with a 6 page document via the estate agent but it was worth it. Location,Location,Location.

Fair enough - but other areas around there were flooded for months a couple of years ago and houses ruined.
