Well as the kitchen progresses I'm onto the building of a partition wall at the end of the kitchen (west-ish facing). Due to the nature of the room (17ftx9ft) and building in general (the living room next door is 20ftx10ft) the kitchen windows are a bit on the dinky side and I want to let a bit of light into that end of the kitchen (the sun is to the north of the bungalow during the summer and the opposite during the winter but the living room has a nice big window).

My inner designer wants a column of half width glass blocks/bricks (i.e. 90x190x80mm) running up the partition wall which'll run to about 12 bricks/blocks (it adds a bit of interest on an otherwise blank wall as well).

Any recommendations as to where to get them? (the local B&Q's are hopeless, the local super store's been halved in size and is barely any better than our local normal store while the local builder's merchants are rather hit and miss as well).

Contact your local council, if they're knocking down a public toilet you may get some second handbiggrin

I used this company for mine and they were great. No link, just a happy customer.

Thanks for the replies guys, public loo's? what are them then? I live out in the sticks oop north, if you're desperate enough then you take your chances with the nettles and hawthorns (and the odd curious sheep/cow) biggrin .

Ebay was the first place I tried and whatever search I tried it was the old public loo style reclaimed jobs. As for Wicks they only sell the full 19x19cm numbers, due to the space between the work surface and the end of the wall (and the beginning of the built in fridge/freezer) I'm ideally after the half sized bricks (and it'll mirror the internal door glass as well).

I'll certainly give Simply glass blocks a go. Thanks for the offer for the cobalt blue ones though, I may very well be interested in them for the bathroom, but at this moment that little (OK large) job will be for the future, at the moment I'm having to wait for each successive pay day to buy a bit more, this month - glass blocks, plasterboard, wood and the hob.

If it's OK Boosted I'll PM you in the new year, if you have still have them in January I'll be able to buy them off you then (no council tax for three months after that so a bit more cash in the kitty), if you don't then no worries I won't be starting in on the bathroom for a bit yet anyway. It's probably the only room that doesn't need immediate attention... well... apart from the tiled trough above the bath, as it's a potential source of concussion when getting out of the bath (the buggers even took the light fittings in what's going to be the studio).

Another happy user of simplyglassblocks.co.uk, and when I had a few questions rae@glassblocks.co.uk was very helpful.

Sorry, I didn't consider that you may have never been to a town or city. Or that you had never made a casual observance of a public loo.

Far be it from me to suggest that you would have to lower yourself to actually go into one, perish the thought (shudder).

Glass bricks in my mind conjour up images of a derelict public loo, sorry.

Each to their own though.

I'm sure you'll find something suitable for your needs smile

Oh we have public loos, though ones a rather modern contraption that, once, someone got stuck in (automated doors), the others are generally underground so not big on the glass blocks.

Yep when you think of glass bricks that is generally the first thing that comes to mind, especially those ribbed type of block (not a fan) but some of the things you can get now really are very much the brick/block equivalent of a Ferrari (take a quick look through Seves glassblocks gallery some of the things they produce really are highly desirable and different though, I'm a particular fan of the deep blue bricks (and they are brick shaped) they produce but I shudder at the thought of the costs.
