I know and look after a Fiat panda 4x4 and Suzuki Jiminy for a couple who live up in the mountains and need them to get down particularly when the weather gets bad. He reckons they are both brilliant little 4wd's the Jiminy in particular will go anywhere! They are both reliable and have never let them down only every needing servicing and MOT's every year.

The Fiat Sedici is a rebadged Suzuki SX4 which is another good one they seem to be popular and people who own them seem to rate them

Sedici/SX4 launch was 2006 IIRC...but having had the former, significantly overlooked cars. Simple, reliable, sensibly economical, can do the 4wd bit to a good level, incla diff lock effective to 37mph. Good kit.

Mine only went because I changed jobs and it had to do the one thing it's unsuited to, a long Mway commute S60 D5 better suited, less characterful frown

ETA
Be aware that a majority of SX4s are actually 2wd

SX4 4x4 is a good all rounder

Sedici/SX4 will, yes, but as I said, a regular commute wouldn't be its thing.

Gearing's on the low side, primarily, so noise levels higher than most at any given (Motorway)speed. Perfectly fine on A & Bs.

ETA
Mine was the 1.6 petrol, but that was a conscious choice as the diesel seems problematical and commands a premium I'm not sure it can justify.

SX4 would be a good all rounder motorway long distance etc but like someone else said make sure its a 4wd they do make a 2wd. I think the Jimny/Terios would become rather irritating on a long motorway journey

Have you looked at the Subaru Forester? these are good vehicles on road and off road

The Terios is an absolutely hateful heap, awful to drive and just terrifying really.

Suzuki Jimmy is ace off road and it's the only one mentioned that is a proper off roader with a low ratio box. As an every day car I would look elsewhere especially if you need to do any long distance motorway travel.

Thats what I like about forums like this you get completely opposite but honest views..I've seen great things said about the terios and then again terrible.. I've seen good things about the SX4 but if you look on whatcar they dont like the SX4..

..i'll keep waiting for different answers and do as much research as I can !

It's not in the segment the OP mentioned though. Size wise it would be a Subaru Justy the OP would be looking for.

I just thought I would mention the Forester as the OP is looking for a good on and off road vehicle

Don't know much about the Terios but I imagine not. I really like Jimnys. They are cheap, tough and reliable, great off-road and OK for pottering about but TERRIBLE above about 50mph, so definitely not a motorway car! The Sedici/SX4 would probably be the best of those 3 on the motorway but I don't know if they would be as good as an ordinary Focus/Golf-sized car for that kind of use.
