Would love to have one of these, but the fuel economy seems terrible for a diesel, could it do 45mpg at 75mph??

Mine used to average 33mpg with mainly motorway miles, then 36 after a remap.

If your goal is mid 40's at motorway speeds then the 1.9 lump is the easy choice.

Had one, loved it, mapped it, drove it, fixed it (to many times)....

We now have a BMW M135 and economy is pretty much the same, my wife got 29mpg round town in the Alfa BMW will do 27mpg, on a run there's not much in it.

Great car, stunning to look but have scratched the Italian car itch

No, my 1.9 struggled to hit 42.

It needs something doing then - my son has a 1.9 159 Sportwagon and its just averaged 52mpg from deepest Devon to the Midlands, fully loaded

My own 1.9 diesel in the (admittedly lighter) GT, averages 50+ mpg with ease, even with the awful traffic around the M42 - it'll do 60+ when taking it easy

The 1.9 responds well to an EGR delete, a remap and a Terraclean treatment

Thanks thats interesting.

My 1.9 will do 51-52 if I'm being gentle around 70 zones and if I go through enough 50 zones. Usually I see around 47-50 driving around 70.

My 156 1.9jtdm 16v gives around 400 - 460 miles out of a 60l fill up... But if you check the trip computer, it claims it's doing 50mpg...

Rural a & b road commute, gets a bit of a spanking, I'll get about 560 miles out of a tank keeping pace with the outside lane on the m/way.

I rarely get under 600 miles out of a tank on mine, and my average speed is under 35mph - it's done 199,000 miles, so it's nicely loosened-up now....

If I cruise with the trucks at 55-60, it will do 65-70mpg

The fuel computer is within 1mpg since it was remapped

Get the V6 and give it an LPG conversion. Might work out cheaper. And you get the V6 smile My Impreza costs equal 50mpg on gas.
