Well had my m5 for 7 weeks now.
Had running in service done 400 miles ago and has rained ever since it seems so not had chance to play much.
However I have still tried to work out how to activate launch control purely to see how it functions.

I just can't seem to enable it???

Went on the Idrive to the manual and went through the basic steps and don't get any luck.
Should be simple by sounds of it.

Car up to temp or driven at least 6/7 miles, gears in Manual and level 3, DSC de-activated then gearstick held forward until flag appears on dash.... But nothing?

Presume I am mis reading instructions? Or perhaps car needs more miles under its skin??

Are you sure you're deactivating the DSC fully? Just pressing the button puts it in MDM mode, you need to hold the button down for a few seconds (can't recall how many) to fully disengage DSC.

Yeah held down for a while so it says DSC de activated.

I went through everything a few times on a few different occasions ... Unless temps weren't quite there but pretty sure they were as it doesn't get any hotter according the the gauge .

Never used it myself, but I believe you need to press lightly on the brake pedal, too hard and it won't engage.

Ahh that could be the reason... Thanks
I won't be using it more than a few times if at all tbh just curious to how it will all deal with power/traction

When it is engaged you can adjust the hold RPM with the Cruise Control buttons, you should reduce them to get a better launch from what I've read.

I know it can't work magic but it must work better than just switching all power on and off everytime there's some spin otherwise it would get no where...
Presume it allows so much spin then reduces power marginally ..?

You'd hope so but I've had 3 M cars with L/C and in my experience it gives neither a launch nor control, car just spins up and starts crabbing sideways, fine on bruntingthorpe's runway but not on a public road.

Maybe in sunny SoCal with baking hot tarmac...

I've used it twice, on the first occasion I crabbed down the road and almost ended up in a field.

The engine temperature needs to be higher than usual, so warm the engine to the usual level and then go for a spirited blast for a good 5 mins (Sport+ and setting 3 on the gearbox).

Also, ensure that the tyres are warm and that you're on a dry, level and smooth surface - my first attempt was on a road with a noticeable camber.

It's pretty useless IMO. Hopefully BMW will improve the system in the next M5.

Have you done enough miles for it to be actually switched on my BMW, it's not available till the first service around 1000 miles from memory as they need to open the software.
Also as others have said, useless unless yr running drag radials on a drag strip, mdm mode is far better and ideal for launching.

I also seem to recall it not coming up till you released the brake whilst holding the gear-lever forward... Driving my 6 tomorrow so il have a go at remembering.

Yes I have done around 1800 miles now and been in for its first service so shouldn't be going in again for another 15k (I think)

Might be the brake pedal issue I was maybe pressing it too hard but to me if have thought that would have been the more obvious way to activate it.
I wouldn't have thought releasing it would work at all ??

Will have a play next time I'm in it just to see if I can get it activated
