Anyone got a useful small business day to day spreadsheet?
Discussion
excel spreadsheet is fine for a small business without too many inputs. I have one that goes along the lines of:
BALANCE
INCOMES
EXPENSES
VAT
ROLLING INCOME FIGURES
mine has a few different lines that are particularly relevant to how we run the business such as a line specifically for the daily postage cost (this is invoiced every 30 days so isn't used as an expense on the sheet- the invoice we receive from Royal Mail is) which gives us a rough idea of how much the bills are going to be next month.
In the column of the last day of the month I put a few formulas in to work out:
IN FOR MONTH
OUT FOR MONTH
[DIFFERENCE]
DAYS OVER £XXXX
DAYS UNDER £XXXX
AVERAGE INCOME PER DAY
NUMBER OF DAYS
PREDICTED INCOME FOR MONTH (these 2 rows give an indication (not necessarily a particularly reliable one depending on your industry) of how much you'll take in the month- number of days multiplied by average per day)
It works very well as a cashflow control tool and we really don't need anything fancier right now.
