Good afternoon,

I have some awkward plumbing in my house due to the indoor bathroom being retro fitted sometime in the last 100 years.

The bath and sink waste join above the porch then comes down through the porch, which isn't a great feature. Last resort I box it in, but would rather avoid. There is a soil pipe which runs down half sunk into the render adjacent to the porch, the only way to avoid the inside pipe would be to tap into this at porch gutter level.

Long story short, is there a way to cut into the cast pipe and attach the plastic waste pipes without risking cracking or breaking the cast pipe?

There isn't sufficient fall to attach to the soil pipe in the bathroom.

Thanks.

I did exactly that when I moved our bathroom back to where it was originally.

Cast pipe was still in place coming out of the ground. I couldn't find a specific adaptor, but I did find one that was fairly close, but a bit tight. We cut the pipe where we wanted to connect it, then used the grinder to put an internal bevel on the edge to guide the adaptor in. I don't think we modified the adaptor, but we might have.

Been like that for 2 years now, no issues at all. If you look on my renovation thread there are probably pictures.....

Thanks, that sounds like you cut the top off the pipe? I need to cut into the side of it.

You will need a bloody good holesaw and cutting oil! Then just clamp a boss around it.

The older the cast iron pipe, the harder it will be.

Mark out the hole and then drill loads of holes with a decent drill bit. DONT USE HAMMER. It'll look like an inverted cog but you can then file off the peaks.

I tried it with a hole saw.....Gave up after making two lines in ten mins. Got a decent drill bit and tn mins was back in the house having a brew
