Insurance Quote - very odd!
Discussion
I've had my renewal letter through today for my car insurance at £398 (that's a year - sorry to the 17 year olds out there but there are advantages to being 42). Deciding I can do better than that I go onto a website that allows me to compare the market. Renewal comes through at £298 - with the same company I'm with but I get that.
This is the odd bit - my compulsory excess was £95, and the voluntary was £250. When I changed the voluntary to £0 I expected the premium to go up & it didn't - it came down to £281.
So why would this be?
Again, apologies to the teenagers who probably pay that per month, but then again you can sleep through the night without having to get up for a pee so meh.

I could only dream of paying that my first car (2 years ago) I had a 1.4 Astra 2000 some sort of special edition had 114k on engine lasted 2 horses put 2 holes in the block I was paying £400 per month!!!! Evan know iv got a Astra 1.7cdti paying £180 that's with 2 years no claim I don't get why mine is so high when the apprentice in work has got a 1.4 polo and paying £120 per month it don't make sense

Even Babelfish & Google Translate can't make sense of this. Have you ever heard of punctuation?SonicShadow said:
New customer price and renewal prices often aren't the same.
Have you checked every detail, are you sure it's exactly the same policy?
I'm sure if you ring your current insurer and give them the reference number for your quote, and the policies are identical, they'll match it.
I try that every year & they can never match it and yes, details are exactly the same - apart from another years NCD and obviously the £0 excess. I've been with the same company now for 4 years and have never renewed.Have you checked every detail, are you sure it's exactly the same policy?

Even Babelfish & Google Translate can't make sense of this. Have you ever heard of punctuation?Last week my Mothers car insurance renewal came through.
It had more than doubled to £740
I did a "go compare" on her and the 5th lowest was the same company at £365.
I got her to phone up and cancel, they said that they'd have a look at it and came back with a quote of (surprise surprise) £365.
She went with the lowest quote of £320 with another company.

"Will you be renewing today?"
"Yes, but not at that price, try £396?"
"Ok".
Done.
Chancing mofo's.
Like someone said, all made up on the spot. Very little rhythm or reason. £300 for a 206 gti where they've used the 5 years no claims (not sure where that came from), still only £260 for the RB which now only has 2 years for some reason.
Can't work it out. Don't care, insured 3 cars for less than a grand. All legit, just takes time each year to shop around. Simples.

As this pots has odd in the title, I thought I'd add this. Every year, halfway through my present insurance contract, I get offers through the post for VERY keen premiums for when renewal time comes. And yet, every time I've called them to accept their offer, the ACTUAL premium they require is vastly more. And no, before you ask, I probably have just about all the criteria to attract a low quote, no naughties in my driving history, and no 200mph sports car either, just a cheap run about.
