Ok so I quite fancy a twin or triple upright naked for summer fun with a nice backing sound, looking for 90bhp+. Ideally I'd like a MT09 but want to keep it under £2.5k. Are early Monsters and Speed Triples the only options?

Vtr 1000 and Tuonos should be in that price range also tl1000 but the latter have a widow maker reputation.

Forgot the sv 1000 which may be your best option.

I've just bought a 2009 Aprilia Shiver, 14k, 2 owners, full history, 2 keys etc. £2900 with full Aprilia luggage. Pretty much fits all your requirements.

You'd get a good Cagiva Raptor 1000 for that price, MV Augusta frame, Suzuki V twin, and looks beautiful!

Tuono and Shiver fit the bill, the others aren't upright enough really.

Get some decent suspension, don't over tighten the chain and fit a steering damper and it's a pussycat.

Early Monster 900's are great fun but you won't get 90hp+

You may find an early street triple if you look around. I paid £3300 for a 2010 plated R model, so bargains do exist.

Indeed they do, mine actually does make 90hp+ (courtesy of a few mods) but it feels stronger than my 916 which makes almost 30hp more - in fact up to 6,000 rpm the Monster has more grunt, from 7k onwards it would be left behind but that's not the point of a Monster...
