I will be fitting these to my engine over the winter and wondered if any one could post up pictures of how they have routed the cold air to them on their install. Just want to get a feel for what others have done. Cheers

Clive's AJP Griff had routing for throttle bodies, may be similar to what you are looking for...



The only RV8 cars I have seen with throttle bodies have had airboxes on.

Hi Matthew,

have been told by a couple of people that the air delaminates from the wall of the induction tube if fitted direct onto the collector box as in Clive's set up. I can't go through the bonnet as in the second picture as regulations don't allow but that would have been favourite I think.

They look really great.

Should be pretty simple to route a pipe on each side down to the cool air under the car.

Guess you just need to source an air filter.

Something like this or a K & N ..

I would be very interested to see what you end up doing, I am seriously considering going down this route myself soon for no other reason aside from the sublime induction noise. I blame Andy race and Ian Rose who owns the car in the second photo.

Ian's setup doesn't go through the bonnet so looks standard with the bonnet shut, it apparently takes air from the grill in front of the windscreen. I know he did look at utilising the airboxes you have but I am not sure how far he got or why he decided for the ITG ariboxes.

Might be worth dropping him a PM to compare notes, roseytvr very nice chap and has kindly helped me out with things in the past.

This is basically the set up I have at the moment. Which I am at the moment thinking of adapting to suit.

Are you allowed a bulge on the bonnet to accommodate the airboxes, or maybe a scoop? Or is the bonnet profile completely unmodifiable?

Do you not get the same noise from throttle bodies? When I spoke to John Eales he said that that you get more noise from down draft compared to cross over but I didn't ask about carbs vs ITBs.

Yep that's mine with the JE TBs and flat panel filters. The original idea was a twin outlet air box to fit in the nose of the car over the original filter and I have an air box made up that fits. However I found the flat panels work fine even on the track and the car doesn't seem to suffer with hot air being inducted once I'm on the move. I have no holes in the bonnet but I think there's enough fresh air flying around that it's not an issue.

That said I will watch this with interest to see if you come up with any bright ideas thumbup I have bought a spare bonnet to hack up for the track but haven't got round to it yet!

no can't go through bonnet , silhouette has to be as per road model was sadly.

I would have thought that under bonnet temps even in a road car would effect the air charge, especially sitting above the manifolds all beit they are coated. I will be taking air from a cold source, that's a must in my book but as I have the free use of rollers I will try both ways to have a look see, I may be talking dribble again. I will post up the results of my set up once it's up and running.

Will be observing with interest. Use of rollers would be very interesting to see the difference between the two approaches.

The garage I use to fit them would fit and set up a complete system for a lot less than that 3k you been quoted. The car would have to come to Sunny Devon though for a few days. Still worse places to drink a cold Thatchers Gold or two.

I am not 100% set on MBE but it is very high on the list. When the times comes I will do some proper research. OMEX710 is a contender and recommend by my current mapper Mark Adams. It is the best ECU at that price point, very similar capabilities to the Motec ECUs but all features are unlocked without having to pay extra.

I can think of worse places to sink a few jars. Devon is a very nice part of the world.

Yeh, not bad thanks mate and hope all good your end. Be interested how you get on, seems a shame to have to close the bonnet with those on.
