Well written article , though I wonder why the author didn't go for a manual M4.

Fair question: To be honest I wanted a change. I am a fan of manual transmission but at the same time, being my daily car it means most of my morning commutes are spent in traffic so I decided to give an auto a go. I do have other sports cars which are manual (DC5 and Exige S2) so I felt comfortable taking the plunge and so far i don't regret it.

I should have figured that shouldn't I. biggrin

Adam, thanks for clarifying. Your article deserves max exposure, because it's the best I've read comparing the two generations. I don't know whether it's your aim to get it syndicated but if it is good luck, but I would add a paragraph if possible because transmission choice is key and the readers will know and respect your informed decision.

Interesting article...it backs up most of what I have read about the F8x M3/4.
I'm on 7 years E92 M3 ownership (a 2008 and a 2013) and looking at moving to a M4 DCT.
What puts me off is that the M4 seems to lack the very things I love about the E92 M3....a fabulous engine and the easily exploitable chassis.
Don't really care about idrive (you already get bluetooth streaming with the later E92 M3s) nor the interior - which in any case doesn't look as nice.
I do like the exterior and the greatly increased torque...although by all accounts sadly comes at the price of reduced stability.
Its a quandary...I have the suspicion that once I've bought one I won't enjoy it as much.

When I read about the new M3/M4 I can't help feeling it would be better with a bit less weight, a bit less torque and a more exciting sound. Answer might be to save some cash and get the M2 instead, will be interesting to see them tested back to back. M3 should be intuitive to drive with the systems off and I had more fun in earlier versions on cold wet roads than warm dry ones. Think one of the magazines suggested the last car they tried was much improved but sounds like it isn't setup correctly for our roads.

Driving my Z4MC in the snow today, systems off to get traction and it is fantastic fun on the daily commute on half worn summer tyres. Not a driving god but easily manageable power delivery and progressive differential lock up gives a lot of confidence. M4 looks great but doesn't sound like a year round daily driver.

Forgive me, this is not my usual modus operandi, but over the years I've come to read eulogising pieces such as this with a certain degree of trepidation, and in this instance, that trepidation appears well founded.

This is nothing more than pretentious twaddle, a host of gushing superlatives interspersed with hyperbolic, nonsensical guff.

I've no issue with passionate owners writing pieces on their cars (I've done it myself on here) but keep it factual and devoid of the purple prose, otherwise you appear nothing more than a slightly sad, rather deluded, self indulgent geek with nothing better to do than justify your latest car purchase on an internet.

As you were .....
Also I would say that after a little over a weeks ownership of the M4 it is a little bit early to judge/review it for me as you are still in the honeymoon/excited period.

Some of the stuff he has wrote as you have highlighted just shows how laughable it can be with the M3/M4 and while they are very nice cars its important to realise that they are...when all said and done still based on a bog standard family car...

So lets not get too carried away about their greatness biggrin
