Car or Cocoon?
Discussion
Got into the car earlier... for the second time of the day. Engine still warm, heater up to temp pretty much immediately. Yeah not the coldest day of the year but some nasty weather up North but when you shut the door it's like another world.
Anyway the point is that one of the things I like most about cars is the fact that you're in another world once you get in and at no point is this nicer than when the weather outside is absolutely shocking. Sub-zero, smashing it down with rain, hail snow etc.
It wasn't always like this though was it? My Fiesta feels larger than any car in my family's history - my dad's old G reg Mk4 Escort Estate was just a shell in comparison.
But even I know that the Fiesta is a world away from some of the competition - so what is the cosiest or most cocooned car you have ever owned or been in? What made the crappy weather outside seem like it was happening to someone else?
Extra points if you can name something affordable that I can buy one day rather than a Hummer.

One of two...
1. Land Rover Defender fitted with Eberspacher diesel heater between the seats and a custom interior. It was snow and icy and -20 degrees C outside coming over the top of Shap around 9pm in a blizzard. Toasty warm and felt safe and secure inside. That was after a day in Carlisle ferrying nurses around the countryside over very icy roads as they visited the elderly to ensure they were all safe. Eberspacher kept us warm all day.
2. Toyota Land Cruiser V6 in the Peaks. Midst of a blizzard with drifting snow and about -10 outside. Warm inside with music coming from the radio. Very safe cocooned inside. Helped rescue 5 vehicles that night including 2 other 4x4s (Nissan and Mitsubishi).

The Audi Q7 was probably the most isolating car I've had. Soft suspension (when set to comfort) heated seats and minimal external noise were a good mix for hiding from the weather.
I drove it from 400 miles on one awful day with torrential rain and strong sidewinds on the M6, apart from the occasional wobble the only thing I really noticed was smaller cars getting pushed about by the wind.
