We have golfs at 32 thou and the 400 might be 40 thou. M5 costs 80 thou. Civic type r at 32 big ones. Has anyone got a car in excellent shape with big go for not much dough? I still say my skyline is the best value fast car but what have you got that you're really happy with that's quick?

They're all brand new cars though, buying second hand there will be loads of cars of a similar pace for pocket money but you don't get the back up of a warranty etc.

The skyline is a good shout but to get a good one isn't exactly cheap. I used to have a few MR2 turbos in the 90/00's and the rev 3 I had with minor mods was a pocket rocket, not as grippy in the corners as say my later Evo's but straight line punch it was genuinely rapid.

The Evo's are a good shout as a-b not much will keep pace with a well sorted one,
My old 9GT was at 400/400 and point to point was the quickest thing I've been in, sold it for 20k around 7 years ago and they're still around that price now for a well looked after one so again not really cheap.

Out of my car list I'd opt for the MR2 for cheap rapid fun, with around 320bhp the skyline would need quite a bit more in a head to head straight line run, corners and the SL would have it.

If you mean straight-line speed, I think fast cars are cheaper now then they've ever been.

ETA: Actually the same is probably just as true of cornering speed as well.

370z GT.

Bought at less than 2 years old, 9K miles for 20 thou, whatever that proves.

I'd be fairly confident i could buy something fast and / or fun for 1 thou if i put my mind to it.

BTW, is it really about going as fast as you can?

That explains why the value of rally classics has shot up as its a kind of bendy speed.

You can pick up a camaro for less than 5 grand which will embarrass most car's with a few bolt on parts.

The new Focus RS will provide an awful lot of bang for buck, as will the V8 Mustang....

I got as far as the first sentence of the OP thinking we were talking clearances and perhaps considering the title of the thread, something to do with build quality cost and performance... wobble

I don't even know what this is!

I'd say that with the low finance rates and cheap lease deals, it has never been easier to get into some rapid new metal. Let alone the performance levels increasing year on year.

The previous Focus RS had remarkable residuals. If I kept the one I had back in 2010 with sensible mileage it would still be worth £20k, I only paid £24,500 for it eek
