R8 Computer / Stalk malfunction

My recently bought 2009 R8 won't cycle through the computer functions, and it feels as though it could be the switch itself in the stalk that's failed (no feeling of a "click" or movement when pushed).

Has anyone had this happen and / or had it fixed, and is it something worth having Audi deal with, or could I source and replace a stalk for less than the cost of the Audi "diagnostics" at £60 (and presumably plus VAT)?

I've seen the shift-paddle switches on those break before but not the DIS buttons. If you wanted to send me your reg or chassis number I can look up the part number of the stalk for you - quite likely you'll find one used for a lot less than new.
