I'm looking to have a towbar fitted to my LCI 335d MSport Touring F31. Can anyone suggest the most descreet one? I'm due to have a witter bar with removable swan neck in the new year but I am worried about the amount of the plate that may be visible when the bar isn't on. It will be used for cycle racks etc not towing a caravan!
Any help or photos with one in place would be really useful

The OEM BMW tow bar fits discreetly under the rear bumper and folds out as required... Have you checked whether or not they could retrofit?

I used mine for the bikes too! biggrin

My understanding is that the OEM towbar can be retrofitted but is v expensive (over £1000 as opposed to £520 for Witter)
Unless anyone knows differently?

I will have to have a look at your bike rack on Safurday, as I fancy getting one soon smile

I have a 330d and had a genuine BMW bar fitted and prices varied from £1500 to £2000.The coding on the later cars can be a nightmare and many aftermarket fitters can not code the new aftermarket bars in correctly.

I had a E90 touring before and a BMW dealer fitted a witter bar before i collected the car from them. When i came to tow they had not coded the reversing sensors so when i reversed it did not deactivate the reversing sensors so it just sounded the alarm all the time saying it was too close. The dealer ended up giving me the money back for the tow bar and i had a genuine one fitted by an indy who still took the car back for decoding to the local main dealer.

Friend of mine was going aftermarket and put the coding questions to them and they were not 100% sure they could recode the car after fitting. On the E90 models it was easier to code but without BMW online some aftermarket fitters still took the car to BMW for recoding.

Just ask the question of recoding to whoever is fitting the towbar or if you have any doubt then bite the bullet and just get a genuine one fitted for the best price you can.

The rack is awesome - folds down with the bikes on so you can open up the boot. Don't ask me to lift it with one hand though - it's a substantial bit of kit! biggrin

The F31 reversing camera also has a tow bar mode which allows you to reverse the car up to couplings - pretty clever stuff thumbup
