Hello!

Our In laws, have a Westie with some skin complaints. It doesn't seem to bother her, sometimes she scratches but not often.

I've added so pics, hope you have all had tea.

She has had this for about a year and the vet prescribes anti biotics which do work but doesn't last.

She's tried the raw diet which didn't help and currently has higher quality dog food.

Thanks
James

Have you ever heard of Westie Skin.

Well unfortunately Westie and bad skin generally go hand in hand.

Your in-laws Westie actually sounds mild compared to many. There are more investigations that can be done, bloods for allergies such as house dust mites, pollens, flea bites etc etc. Trout and sweet potato diet ONLY for at least 6 weeks for dietary sensitivity, good skin supplements.

Avoid beef, chicken in diet as triggers skin (check the ingredient list carefully on the diet, even some 'good' one's can be misleading), home cook dog treats only. No scraps.

Use aloe and oatmeal shampoo only (check what the groomers use) finally depending on age and whilst very unlikely cushings disease could be ruled out with blood testing.

Their vet could discuss all above options really.

ETA can't see any pics.

Our Westie's skin issues seem to be linked to diet and whether or not our cat has fleas.

He now has Burns dog food. We give him raw carrot for treats and sometimes plain peas, sweetcorn or broccoli if there are any leftovers from our meals.

And we keep our cat up to date with flea treatment.

No skin problems now.

Goats milk helped my dog when he had some skin issues, I was skeptical but it worked for my pooch.

Ours suffered for years (hes 10 now) and through trial and error the only things that helped were James Wellbeloved Lamb food - see above re beef and chicken.

Also keeping his hair - especially underneath - short to stop irritants becoming trapped against the skin, the washing with malaseb once prescribed shampoo once a week.

Sadly he now has kidney issues so renal food has had to take importance over the James Wellbeloved and the redness and itching has returned frown

Good luck, its a common issue, just try various foods until you find the right one - itll no doubt be one of the expensive brands!
