I was at the NEC today and fully intended to satisfy my unnatural helmet fetish by getting the Pedrosa version of the new RX7-V but wow, what a terrible chunk of helmet it is. It was nowhere near as comfortable as the RX7 Corsair/GP and the small shell version weighed in a 1,620g! That's about 400g more than a Shoei NXR! It didn't even do a good job hiding its weight like some other weighty lids can manage.

The materials inside were pretty shocking for a £600 lid, too. It didn't feel plush and I strongly suspect that after a few months use it'd be pretty grim in there.

The Shoei X-Spirit 3 looked pretty amazing but I didn't get a chance to fondle one.

Really disappointed with Arai.

Me too. I'm a current rx7gp owner but I don't think my next lid will be arai. They really seem to have stood still, rested on their reputation and not innovated much. Everyone else seems to be generating new stuff but not them for some reason

Should probably have added that the lower profile side pods are a huge improvement but they really should think of something better altogether.

You've got to rate the design of their side pods though rolleyes

I have no idea how Arai are so popular. They are st and I say that as a guy who's had two.

The only reason to pick one they're designs are sometimes pretty smart.

I really like the look of the Arai lids, but just couldn't find one that wasn't a decent, secure fit on my head
I must have a HJC shaped head as the RPHA10+ Carbon fits very well, although I'm not over keen on the designs
I'm up at the bike show on Wednesday, so I'll have a play around with the new Arai's too

I, like many others reading this thread, have a few helmets and have owned a good few too many!!!

Arai road helmets have the best paint jobs and designs, other than that they are way out of date, no wrap around visor, a stupid visor change system and that daft sun shield thing they have now?!?!? I did own 4 RX7's but that was just cause they looked so good (Hayden Laguna has to be the best!).

That said I had lots of MX helmets and far and away the best one was an Arai VX Pro only slightly bettered by the Arai VX3, great vents, great paint and very durable. I had so many MX lids that fell to bits, a Lazer that the paint fell off and the peak broke after 2 crashes and a ONE Trooper that cracked after one hit!

I've always loved Shoei's having had them 25 years but as the prices have gone up my love for them has gone down. I nearly bought an NXR but they have just got expensive.

Enter HJC..........I now own a RPHA+ and an IS17, great price for a good helmet.

Only had one Arai before concluding I had a non compatible nose, so it's been Shoei ever since.

Currently have 2 Shoeis bought back in 2004 for my racing years so it's not been uncommon for me to recently wander into a bike shop to look at getting something new, only to wander out moments later shocked at the money they want for them. I was in the US at the start of the year and they were still mental money despite the whole 'cheaper-in-the-States' thing and exchange rates and stuff.

I couldn't believe the price if gear at the NEC!

I tried on an NXR and they wanted £329 for one, online I can get one for £100 cheaper. A GT air was £499!

Crazy prices, my mate nearly bought a lovely Dainese leather jacket, but again at £350 it was just too expensive, especially when you go online and it is £50 cheaper and the Dainese Online store!

I think if your wanting gear you have to go the last day, if your there all week you don't sell your lowest price a few days in. Come the Sunday, then you chop prices.

Or go and try for size and then order online. At least I now know I'm an XL in Shoei's !

My girlfriend refuses to have an Arai helmet because the font makes it look too much like "Anal".

You should go with a "Bell" like everyone else on the forum then.

Nothing funny or suggestive about that.

I went to the NEC yesterday, with the intention of getting a new lid. Looked at and tried the Arai Chaser V but preferred the fit and quality of the Shoei NXR it also seemed to be a lot lighter. I was set on the Brad Smith rep and got it for £299, not sure if it can be had for cheaper onine but I was happy at that price.

I have RX7GP which I am kindof going off.

I like the light weight. I like the ventilation. I like the build quality and the fit and finish.

I hate the visor on almost every count: the mounting is ok, but you have to be a bit brutal. The pinlock thing is utterly rubbish, and its very hard to get a proper seal. The visor itself doesnt seal properly so lets water in. And the latch thing on the left is ridiculously stiff and stupid. And do I need to mention the "designed by a 4 year old" tinted visor thing?

My AGV Corsa is on another planet in terms of design of the visor. Completely water tight. Has the LCD dimming option which is so clever. Easy to latch and open. Even lighter weight.

Am I literally the only person in the world who likes the Arai visor design and sidepods? Takes 2 seconds to change a visor once you learn how to do it. Never had a problem in 7 years of owning them.

Agree with this, i've had shark helmets for over 15 years and love them.
