Father in law bought a vehicle but was given green slip+ yellow slip.

Yellow slip (section 9) only has dealer name and signature not the old keeper's signature. Is that likely to be an issue?

Everything is filled in as normal. Just seems like the previous keeper didnt sign section 9 when she sold it on to the trade. The trader has an unfilled V5.

Yellow slip can be done online now so maybe the dealer has done this when he brought the car in.

I don't understand why they gave your father the yellow slip though? They shouldn't need to do that.

Section 9 is for the last owner to send to DVLA.

The dealer should have given the last owner that bit to send to DVLA, ending his responsibility for the car, when they took the car in.

Then, when they sold it on they would send the rest of the V5 to DVLA with the new keeper details - the new keeper will then get a new V5C in the post.

Weird- so he has the full unfilled V5 from my P/X and I have the section 9 from the V5 for my new car- with the green slip too which is fine.

why say it was your father-in-law confused?

anyway, looks like dealer made a slight mistake.

When a dealer or private person either sells or buys a car if you do it online you do not have to use thee paper v5 or give anyone any parts of it.

Online it will ask for the buyers and sellers details and the option to give both peoples E-mail addresses. It is a good Ideal to give the E-mail because as soon as you have completed the online document the seller will get an E-mail saying he is no longer the registered keeper of the car and will get confirmation in the post in about four days along with any refund of car tax he is due.The buyer will also get a E-mail at the same time confirming he is now the new registered keeper of the car and will be sent a new V5 confirmation in the post.

As the E-mail has a time and date there will be no issues with any speeding, parking etc offences before or after the sale of the car.
