Mondeo Ecosport 240 Estate
Discussion
Recently changed jobs and the new place has a much better company car scheme, meaning I could opt out with no restrictions on car choice and still have a fuel card. So naturally I ruled out anything diesel, anything under 200bhp and anything boring. I needed a huge estate for a family wagon, fast and fun when its just me and something not to flash to arrive at business meetings in. I think this ticks all the boxes.
So here it is, mk4.5 Mondeo Estate, 240PS with a "DSG" style box but this utilises a wet clutch for smoother changes. Official figures are 7 to 60 and 153mph, however in reality its deceptively quick once rolling. These cars are ultra rare as most are the 200bhp diesel, so I was lucky to find one local for the right price.
I've only covered 500 mile in it so far but I'm very impressed. When pottering its ultra smooth and quiet, which is ideal for the family, the ride is also more compliant than my previous car which was a Mazda 6. When I'm on my own and flick into sport mode, it changes into a rapid estate. For the money, I can't think of much else that ticks so many boxes. Skoda Octavia VRS was my other option but they're ten a penny and the interiors aren't particularly nice imo, also a bit small.
Few pics, no decent ones yet really.

They did the slightly older mk4 with the Focus ST 5-pot as well. Slightly faster to 60 despite less power and available as a manual (the 240PS is only available as an auto).
Nice cars but tragically the auto box only on the 2.0T (and to a certain extent being under 2l which makes it not quite so good for mileage claims) put me off them, I'll be sticking with my 2.5T!

Lovely big bus
The 240 turbos map rather well too
300 horses in what most will assume a diesel rep mobile certainly has an appeal
Can't speak for the engine of box but for everything else the reliability should be spot on, only known issue is the rear arm bushes think I did mine at 180k miles though
Stunning motor enjoy

25% power increase just by remapping it? Surely not? The 240 turbos map rather well too

300 might be pushing it (or might not, I've not checked for the 2.0T) but certainly the 2.5T will see 265 out of just a remap
and that's a ~22% increase.
http://www.eliteremaps.com/tuning/ford/mondeo-2010/20t-ecoboost-240hpand that's a ~22% increase.
Problem with the 2.5T is because its in the older car, you end up with an interior which is a bit tacky imo. Facelift interior is a much nicer place to be. Autobox is marmite though I agree, either love it or hate it. I find it extremely quiet and refined when pottering about, you don't even notice it shuffling gears around. On a hoon it obviously lacks involvement though, think it would benefit from paddles, strange Ford didn't include them.
On my first tank I averaged 22mpg, but obviously had a lead foot. 2nd tank is showing 30mpg with mostly short journeys. On a run I reckon it'll do mid 30s which I think is pretty good for a big bus.

Oh I agree, not that the early Mk4 is *bad* but the newer one is a bit nicer both inside and out. The Mk5 is nicer still but even heavier, larger and still auto-only. Can't see myself buying another Mondeo though after this one though. I like mine but I think yours looks nicer (I personally wouldn't have one in white but it looks nice)

I got 36mpg over about 100 miles out of mine today. Would probably have been better if it wasn't for the A14. That's driving on cruise control at an indicated 70 (about 67-68 real). I believe the 2.0T is a bit better.

No manual option - that's killed that idea then
Plus you'll struggle to even find any for sale anyway! When I was looking a few weeks back, the one I bought was the only one for sale in the country. There's been 1 listed recently in Scotland but its up for over 18k!!!Looking for the 2.0T (Mondeo Titanium Turbo and Mondeo Titanium X Turbo from 2011 to 2015 if you want to look yourself) and it looks like they sold roughly 600 which at the same generous ratio makes it 200 cars at the very most!
Didn't realise it was just quite that rare! Makes me feel a bit better about paying full asking price now. I actually bought this in the dark, after a 5 minute test drive, doing all the things you don't do when buying a car. But I just had a feeling about this and I've not been disappointed.
Quick snap from a clean. No interior shots yet but its half leather, half alcantara with red stitching around the outside of the seats, red stitched steering wheel and some carbon fibre trim. Heated/cooled seats, puddle lights, convers+, climate, cruise etc etc.
