Hello, I am new to this forum and I'd like to learn alot about lotus cars. I currently drive a BMW 330i, But as a next car I am thinking of the 111s if it ever makes it here across the pond.

Can you guys tell me what engines lotus cars use? How do they keep up as a daily driver? Are they generally reliable cars?

Thank you .

in its current form the engine is a K series 4 cyl engine manufactured by Rover. In it 1.8l variant it is a little stretched - (originally a 1.4 design and then subsequently bored out) there have been numerous Head gasket failures on poorly maintained engines.

However these appear to have been cured - and were not a huge feature of the elise - due to the lower weight and less engine stress.

There are two variant - the standard and the 111s VVc version - ignoring for a moment the 160 - 190 bhp outputs.

However the K series will never get approval in the US - so latest guess is the Honda vtec engine - but quite honestly no one knows for sure.

I hope they get a car launched in the states soon.

190 VHPD engines are fast

Perhaps the Elise will get on of the MG X Power [dont really know what they are called just made a wild educated guess] engines with my favourite mechanical upgrade.

I'm thinking around the 40k-50k mark. I was thinking of the new m3 but that may be out of the question due to its price tag. The elise seems like somthing different, better perhaps.
