Hi, I'm getting increasingly frustrated by the lack of grip in the GT3, in the wet. It's almost undrivable for me, especially on track days if damp. What's a good alternative to the Cup 2 Tyres that are currently on it? Any ideas much appreciated.

I had to get two new tyres on my rather older GT3 and went for Pilot Sport 4S, it’s a road car for me so I wanted something more general purpose than track oriented.

Sometime after I am pretty sure Chris Harris tweeted he had some on his Touring and how good they were.

They’re a great tyre IMO, it will be interesting to hear other opinions.

Thanks. Sounds like a good shout. Will see what others think. It’s mainly road for me and even if I go on track, I’m not interested in breaking lap records (just not crashing).

I am very happy with the 4S on my car. I assume on track the best would be a set of wets, rather pricey though ... I might try a set of Trofeo R on a wet and cold track day tomorrow (or I just sleep in and call it on this shortened 2020 season)

Thanks. Looks like it’s PS4s. Just looked online and these get an A rating for wet. The cup2s get and E!

Anybody planning on running Dunlops through wet/colder days? How do they compare to cup2's and PS4S?

I hate the brand. No need to look anywhere else from the PS4S

I ran dunlops race 2s in the cold and wet last winter on a weekend car where it could be cold and maybe wet when leaving home but dryer and warmer for most of drive.

They were more or less the same as Cup2s. They need to be warmed up but once warm they’re fine if treated with respect.

I wouldn’t use Cups on a daily through winter though. Just not worth the risk.

You cannot get heat in the front’s I find when very cold, any small straights cools the tyres, so when you then hit a bend they just understeer like a pig. And when you need to brake , nothing happens, you get abs ice mode, very dangerous.

I have cup 2’s on all of my cars. I’ve even just had a set put on the 430 Scuderia. On a gt3 a PS4 is a backward step. Cup 2’s need a bit of heat to work, but in all fairness they aren’t that hard to get heat into and once warm they are brilliant. If you are having issues I’d suggest that maybe the set you have are past their best? I change mine every 2 years or 6000 miles.

Yes that’s true if it’s particularly cold. As I say, ai only go out if I’m confident conditions will improve during the drive/way home etc.

If it’s too cold you can’t get heat into them....I was on track at Silverstone with a PEC instructor last November when it was 2 deg and wet. There wasn’t any grip. There were 911’s there on normal road tyres which weren’t anywhere nearly as badly effected by the temperatures. .

They don’t work below 7 degrees so that would be why. If it’s standing water wet or December / January you’d be better off with Uniroyal Rainsports but the rest of the time Cup’s are pretty untouchable imo.

Cup 2’s are fine in most conditions except standing water in my experience. If it rains heavily they can be hairy. I Aqua planned at 45mph on a dual carriageway in Wales last year in my Touring. If you want all all year round tyre that has very good wet weather performance go for the Pilot Sport 4S. There is an N rated version now for Porsche.
Not as fast on track as the Cup2 but a better all year round road tyre for sure.

^This, totally.

Standing water aside, I find the Cup 2's are fine in the wet, [b]as long as[/i] the temperature says above about 7 degrees. Otherwise, all bets are off.

Drove mine at minus 3 for some distance. It was dry and the roads salted but no issues other than being mega careful and light with the throttle. Survived a hail storm too! Not an experience I would want too often though..
