I am in need of info concerning Computer Aided Design used by car manufacturers. If anyone could tell me what is generally used, it would be a great help for my research.
Thanx.

defacto industry standard is PTC's Pro/ENGINEER www.ptc.com
It's the parametric 3D modeler, I'm working with

You may as well find
Unigraphics
SolidWorks
CATIA
Solid Edge.

However this list is not complete, but these are the common high end 3D-CAD systems

Looks like a double post: find some more answers here:

Sorry Bodo, I know you have linked the general gassing one to this, just thought I'd do one the other way too.

I wouldn't call Solidworks or SolidEdge high end....
Our main tools are SDRC Ideas, Catia, Pro-E. That satisfies Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston Martin and many others. Serious money for Licences (£10k+)

Within Design (Ahem, 'Styling') the software of choice is ALIAS. All studios, every market, global, all staff.

System liases with Catia or Ideas depending on individual OEM.

Used to be Silicon Graphics Unix based, now generally being/been replaced by Windows based opp system.

For annimation Miya.

For 2D use PhotoShop/Ilustrator/StudioPaint - Alias plugin.
