In the 90s everyone seemed to have a great big steering wheel lock, but rarely see them these days thanks to immobilizers. But modern keyless entry etc can be intercepted. Does anyone here bother with GPS trackers, or an engine killswitch/secret switch which disables the fuel pump and the like.
I've always been skeptical of GPS trackers, I've read a lot of stories about people telling the police exactly where their stolen vehicle is and they're so slow to respond and do something about it that the car is off to eastern europe in bits before they lift a finger.
I use a disc lock on my motorbike but it's more of a visual deterrent than anything beefy enough to stop even an amateur thief

My stuff is of no interest to car theives.
The last car I had that was, was an L405 RR. I had a Diskloc and the built in tracker. Both did a good job imho.

The point of things like the Diskloc is to encourage theives to move on to a target that’s easier.

I have an additional immobiliser and a steering wheel lock.

People always say how easy it is to get the steering wheel locks off, well it’s harder than it not being there and not every thief is expert in removing them.

Some say “They will just use and angle grinder”, am thinking as it’s under my bedroom window I may notice someone operating power tools in the dead of night.

Regular disc lock user here ... crude, but effective, especially as the car next door will invariably not have one. And I’ve therefore done all I can.

Would you confront a thief wielding an angle grinder though? By the time police show up they'd have cut through it and driven away

I have a Faraday box and a steering lock and the car sleeps in a locked garage. It all makes life difficult for a would be thief but i know can be overcome by somebody who knows what theyre doing. I didnt bother with a tracker because they're expensive and any decent thief can easily disable them and I don't want somebody breaking into my house and waking me up for an immobiliser code.

I think what I have is enough to deter a joyrider, not enough to p*** off a professional thief.

Honestly, since I had my Montego, yes Montego, stolen last Christmas anything is at risk. Its just about making it as difficult as possible for them so hidden switches, disclocks and alarms seem worth the effort but no guarantee.
