The chavtastic ST has filiied its duties and I've been hankering for 4wd for along time now, ever since my GT4 went about twelve years ago. It's been playing on my mind for quite a few years tbh and so been on the look for something quick and grippy. A VW dealer had this for sale so popped along for a look and went for a drive. It certainly fulfilled the brief of quick and grippy! I must admit to it being more supply over the bumps than the ST which has been a bit crashy. I'll probably miss the Recaro seats but there's more pluses to buying the R which I pick up on the 2nd March. Now to be patient and wait for the time to pass!

Nice. Are these still pinched often? Maybe some extra security. You can’t go wrong with a fast vw. Any proper pics yet?

Thanks! It's exactly the same cost to insure as the ST as I live in the middle of nowhere and only do around 4000 miles a year.
The dealer took down the advert before I even got home so I'll pop some pics up when I get it back home. thumbup

Lovely - new car collection day always feels special, and the longer the drive home the better!

I drive back from work and the missus house after midnight until about 5am and honestly all I see on the roads are teenagers 18-19 cruising around in MK7 Golfs, mostly lowered with those 3D plates.

I've been looking at various 5 door hot hatches, and all the golfs seem to have some sort of CAT marker against them!
They look like a really good useable daily. Interested to see how you get on.

It looks very tidy and styling wise it's definitely not 'council' despite the appeal to some types due to their speed. Looks in lovely condition too so enjoy. smile

Would have thought that, after an ST, this is practically up-market! Love a MK7 Golf R and definitely need to try one, one day, after being very impressed by my 2020 Leon Cupra 290. It's been missed very much since it went back.

So four weeks in and time for an update.

So the rear spats became a bit loose so they got replaced by the dealer. And that's it. smile

Still putting a smile on my face, the ride is very well judged between well sprung and comfortable. Absolutely love hitting the corners with a bit of speed again, just goes to show much I missed 4wd shenanigans!
Getting out of the car always reminds me how low you sit compared to a normal car. I could raise the seat but I prefer being lower down.
I know some people say they're not as fun to drive as a GTi but I really enjoy it.
I do a 16 mile round trip for work and average around 24 mpg and that's not driving sedately either. But it was never about fuel consumption! biggrin
