I wasn't really sure where to put this, but this seems like the best option! hehe

We're all used to those pop ups asking us to accept, modify or refuse cookie permissions, but I've just had a new one from a French company, and I'm really surprised it's legal?!?

It does give the option to edit your cookie preferences, but they charge you a monthly subscription of €1.99 for the privilege of doing so!

Has anyone else come across this sort of thing before?

Not heard of this before but I run Ublock Origin, Privacy Badger and I Still Don't Care About Cookies which deals with the annoying pop ups and the tracking cookies themselves.

I'd be very suspicious of this and would be quite surprised if it's legal in the EU.

Is there a free option buried deep within a wall of text, just so they can say it's compliant?

Yeah uMatrix here, you just turn it all off.

Bit crap that the internet has ended up here really… and Apple, Microshaft etc are complicit in it rather than building their internet browsers to just dump/manage with all the trash.

To be fair, the whole Internet has.to be paid for somehow. As the saying goes, "if you're not paying for the product, you are the product.

Whilst I agree on one hand, I don’t on the other.

Twitter and Facebook, YouTube and Google, yes.

But many websites/services are selling product yet still scrape your data… like Amazon, BBC, Netflix, etc.

I don’t use the former too much so for all I care they can go to the wall.
But the latter. I’m a bit aggrieved they want more from me than what the implied model would have supported previously (pre internet)

Imo it should all be banned.

Quite frankly I’m surprised people even pay real money for web adverts for the whole tracking/profiling industry to be a thing… but here we are.
