Car stolen - insurance renewal coming up - change insurers?
Discussion
Not sure if this is the best forum for this but here goes:
My mums car got stolen off her drive Sunday night/Monday morning -not yet found. They broke into her house (standard door euro cylinder snapped off) to get keys. Bit strange as not a desirable car, 2008 Mazda 2, parked on her drive behind small gates. Plenty of more desirable cars parked on the road.
But anyway, a quick Google suggests insurance likely to not pay out before 30 days, but her renewal is due in about 3 weeks. She had planned on shopping around/changing insurers as renewal is quite a bit more than last year (even before this claim), Where does she stand on changing insurers with a possible ongoing claim?

If she doesn't have the car she doesn't need to renew...
lol very true, what I meant to say was where does she stand with a need to renew, if the car is still not found before renewal is due? Presumably as the claim was made on the previous year, if it is not renewed it will make no difference? And if it is found, she is free to change insurers, and there will be no ‘claim’ to declare?

If the car is found she's not going to want it back.
This is not a Range Rover stolen for export - it's stolen to be used and abused.
Correct, she’d rather it not be found now. however if it is found I don’t think there is much of an option of refusing to have it back unless it’s trashed/damaged etc?! This is not a Range Rover stolen for export - it's stolen to be used and abused.
