Hello,

I’m considering getting a 34mm 1970s Rolex Datejust serviced by Rolex and wanted to get an idea of what the cost might be. The watch will definitely need a new crystal as it has a large chip.

Assuming it just needs new glass, full service and polish, does anyone have an idea of the cost involved?

Thank you

I don’t think I’d go to Rolex for something of that age. Have it done by someone who will be more sympathetic.

Ballpark is going to be between £700-£1000 I’d think.

My wife had new glass and a service on her DJ a few years ago. It was £1200.

I had a similarly sized Rolex Datejust fully serviced by Rolex last year - it needed a new glass too.

Without digging out the receipt, it was around £600. It wasn't polished.

I took it into Rolex HQ in London.

My daughter had her lady datejust serviced by Rolex at Kings Hill and the cost was £760 inc a new crystal. This was in Sept 2023.

We charge £275 for the service but a polish would be extra

I paid £125 for a service on my Rolex Oysterdate 34mm. No parts were needed and this was an independent guy in Weymouth, 4 years ago mind! There are many good independent places that will service it for much less than Rolex charge.

I certainly wouldn’t take it to a Rolex service centre - it will be circa £600 plus parts. They will also potentially insist on replacing hands/dial etc - that will ruin the originality & thus lower the value of the watch.

If however, you want the watch to be good as new and you don’t care what it costs - then take to Rolex.
