Hi All

We had a painter paint fill the stairs and then paint them. Filling wasn't great, it looks like my attempts at icing a cake.

We are now left with this...

He says it's because I asked him to make the paint darker and so he used a non-floor-paint paint to blend to make the floor-paint darker.

However, I don't know if it's the filler seeping through the paint. Or another issues causing a leaching through the paint as shown.

Then again, the top step has the most filler and does not have the same issue. The other steps all get wet.

He wants another £70 to paint in a different paint. I'm loathe to do this and will just do it myself.

Any thoughts?

Grateful for suggestions of paint to use in tip of this that will give a proper finish.

Thanks

Er...£70 the step right?

Get out there, quick sand, chuck more on.

Spend £50 on fine wine, Belgium chocolates and the smell of your pipe as you sit back and relax?

You actually paid someone to paint 5 steps ?
£30 for 5L of Dulux weather shield, hour to paint on a dry/warm day

Job jobbed and plenty left for touch ups in the future.

Floor paint mixed with non floor paint. My guess is it has reduced the quality of the floor paint and possibly not mixed well enough as well so patches result.
What type of floor paint was used?
Cheap type or heavy use epoxy type?

My thoughts are it looks awful in that colour and has been done badly to boot.

Marine deck paint maybe?

I might paint the vertical bits a different colour in something breathable

Ronseal diamond hard floor paint is quite good but I've only used it indoors, you need something UV resistant.
You also have the issue of getting it to stick to what you have done.

I would give it all a quick sand and as above give itca few coats of some decent masonary paint.
I linked to the textured dulux nasonary as it could provide more grip than the flat shiny gloss finish you currently have.

The steps do look like they will be trecherous if it rains.

I think the question should be why did you get them painted. Floor paint is OK but the reality is it never copes well in high traffic areas. And I can't see it being good outside, if you are worrying about a few marks its going to be a nightmare for you.

I would guess he didnt prime or seal the filler so the different surfaces have sucked the water out of the paint at different rates.

Maybe another coat or two will allow it to dry uniformally.

Right, some good paint and half an hours work.

Probably take less time than finding someone to do it for you. smile

Product Recommendations appreciated.

It's looked fine initially after it dried.
Then after a few days it started looking worse.
Now it looks as shown.

Stairs are not slippery at all.

Not sure why you think I'm paying someone £70?
Is this how Trump makes facts?

You said in the original post that the painter wants another £70 to repaint it….I think that is why they think you have paid someone £70.
