3 pin to serial connecter question

Hi people.

I have had a look through the search function but I'm still confused.

Is there a make your own guide for the 3 pin to serial connecter. I keep seeing Clever Trevor mentioned as a port of call but the web site no longer exists
.
Otherwise does anyone know somewhere I can obtain one?

Also a known working serial to usb converter although this I do have a few contenders for.
