Strum,
The fact that Lotus will soon cease production of the Esprit should not concern you in the least. Arnie Johnson (Pres. at LCU) et al, do a wonderful job of supporting Esprit owners, even those like myself, who own a 17 year old Esprit or older.
Federal law mandates that a manufacturer maintain a parts inventory for at least 10 years after the date of manufacture, and while my car is 17 years old, I can still secure virtually any part the car requires.
This past summer, I did a total rebuild of my engine/transmission/clutch/brakes and carburetters. Not only was I able to secure every part, but I had, in 99% of the cases, multiple sources for these parts. I purchased parts from Lotus, JAE, SJSportscars in the UK. These purchases included some aftermaket parts which were superior to the stock parts.
Will the discontinuation of the Esprit affect it's resale value? No one can say, except there is credence to the thought that it's effect will be positive as the number of available cars just became finite. Hope this helps...Jim '85TE
