Fresh on the success of mating a centrifugal blower to our 968CS for 350bhp and then further tweeking it to 420bhp & 475Nm (yes, really!), one of our customers with a Boxster S basically came in one day and said "I want that one - on this please!". Since the car was also coming to pieces for a body upgrade to 996TT front end & facelift rear, we pulled the engine to evaluate the job.

A week of head scratching later, prototype bracket is on the engine, blower is hung, belt drive sorted out and we just have intercooler, pipework and DME to sort out, although we know how we are doing these so in theory it will be relatively straightforward from now on.

The 968 3.0 engine ran happily with 3-4psi in the midrange climbing to 7psi at peak revs to make a minimum of 350bhp at the flywheel on all the cars we have done to date, although some have made as much as 370bhp corrected. So on the Boxster 3.2 we are using the same blower with the same drive ratio and expect to see a similar 100+bhp at the crankshaft, although we may choose to turn down the boost slightly if the chassis won't handle the 350bhp.

I would think that the package will be a direct fit onto the Cayman engine as well, so this may prove very interesting for anyone who fancies their chances with a 400bhp mid engined Porker.

As always, you heard it first on Pistonheads.....

Not when the engine is equipped with our new closed deck liner package.

(...which is not the same as the Autofarm version, by the way.)

Please don't be TOO successful with it - the residuals on my GT3 are bad enough as it is....

Ahem, I thought there wasn't room in there

Right, anyone want a 996, I'm off to source a good Boxster S...

Seriously though, I would love to hear updates on this, I've always dreamed of an UberBoxster

If you don't mind I'll come back to this later on another thread, hopefully with costings that won't break the bank as well as the liner.

Quick update:

Marc and Robin have been burning a few midnight & weekend hours and as a result the first 9m Boxster S supercharger installation is now complete - hurrah!

So, the final task was to remap the DME to match the larger injectors with the blown engine. Initial mapping pulls on the dyno gave us a minor problem -as soon as we saw boost from the blower the increased flow sucked the rubber intake pipes flat. Marc made & fitted a set of replacement metal intake pipes and a quick dyno run indicated that we had solved that problem, but the next issue was that we could only see 3-4psi of boost in the manifold.

Fortunately we have a range of pulleys in stock for our 968 supercharger programme, so we simply fitted a smaller drive pulley to the blower to run it faster. This did the trick and another dyno run found us the 5-6psi that we were looking for. So its back on the dyno on Monday to have the final ecu mapping done - but the interim dyno results are certainly promising - we are already seeing over 400Nm from 4000rpm upwards and hit over 320bhp at just 5500rpm before the fuelling stayed too rich. At this rate we should easily achieve the design target of a 100bhp gain.

Anyone want to buy a 996 cab... I'm going back to a Boxster as soon as one reliably pumps out more power than my 911

Colin

I really want to do this with my 993 but there's no info (that I can find) on your site. Can you point me in the right direction please.

woooow, super work there 9M.

Shame I just bought a 996, and to be honest I miss the agility of the Boxster.
My Boxster is up for sale now (after 360.000 smiling kilometers)

Would this blower be something for a 3.4 996 engine (2001 C2 Cab, with aerokit)

Please keep us posted on the progress

Regards

Ronny
