£20,000 Porsche
Discussion
Currently have an E36 M3, I have been looking at early/LHD 993s, I have a maximum budget of £20k to spend, I am struggling to find a nice 993. Running costs for the car arent really an issue, what else would you recommend with this budget?
Wont go back to BMW, build quality is poor, the E36 M3 has an amazing engine, shame about the rest of the car!

Go wild, at that price you will just about be able to pick up a nice LHD 965 Turbo II. Such a lot of fun and highly recommended. In general I dont see that a 993 justifies the premium over a 964 which is a great car in its own right and £6-8 cheaper than the 993. Personally I just can't get excited about the flattened down front bonnet on the 993 give me those big 964 wings any day. Otherwise you may just stretch into LHD 996 price range (maybe need £22K or there abouts)very different but also a great car and also far better looking than the 993.
You will have no problem getting a 993 for sub £20k!
In my opinion a 964 is neither one thing nor the other.. i.e. not classic or modern... just looks dated and your more likely to have problems with it due to age.
Selling cars is really hard work so if your a no-nonsence cash buyer I wouldn't be afraid of making someone an offer either... one buyer is worth a hundred lookers. I also feel that in todays market that many people have over inflated ideas of what their cars are actually worth... especailly those with average cars with average or higer mileages.
Good luck.

Agree with all this. Still rueing the day I sold my lovely 993.
Is this your only car or a weekend toy?
I disagree with above opinions on the 964. Unfortunately, however it is a car that's flawed - early ones had mechanical issues that left the car with a problematic reputation. The good news is that if you get a '93 964 (which falls within your budget) you'll get a cracking, well sorted car with all of those problems eradicated from the factory (rather than later at the menders). And, IMHO, the 964 is a lovelly "classic" looking 911.
For a weekend toy though - I'd get a true classic. Spend your money on an immaculate 3.2 Carrera and enjoy the 911 as Porsche intended it. Plus you'll save a fortune on keeping it.

I thought the budget was £20k not £30k?
This one on PH looks like good value:
www.pistonheads.com/sales/77776.htm
Not the best colour, and no a/c, but it's a lowish mileage 993 for 964 money.

LHD + Aventura + no a/c = virtually unsaleable

you could buy a 2001/2 E46 M3 for £20k. thats got built quality equal to a early 993 thats had 12 years of wear under its belt.
i like the 993 but think its overpriced, much better bargains are to be had with the Boxster S or an early warrantied 996.

Somebody has spent a lot of money on this to it close to an RS look www.pistonheads.com/sales/69706.htm.
Better looking than a 993 IMO and should stand well in the area of deprciation.

The 3.2 project on the guys website is a different car.
The 964 was introduced in 1989 as the K-series. This first run was when they produced the C4 with the Single Mass Flywheel that later was fitted to the RS.

so given the advert says its based on an 3.2 1985 car it cannot be an RS?
