Hi, I am sure this question has been ashed loads, had a quick search and nothing came up.
I currently have a Noble and it has to go as I am doing a lot of miles and it is not pratical enough. So now looking for a 996. So the questions are..
1)C2 or C4.
2)What are the service costs like ( I am used to around £1500-£2500 a year).
3)Looking in the 28-30K value,... will i get a good un for that?
4)Is the OPC warrenty any good?
5)Private sale or dealer?
Thanks in advance for the constructive answers.
Alex

C4 is more secure, but a little understeery.

2)What are the service costs like ( I am used to around £1500-£2500 a year).

£600 a year for OPC.

3)Looking in the 28-30K value,... will i get a good un for that?

Yes.

4)Is the OPC warrenty any good?

Absolutely a no brainer. Yes.

5)Private sale or dealer?

Dealer, or private but get 111 point inpection and slap the OPC warranty on it for £725 a year.
Thanks in advance for the constructive answers.

1)C2 or C4.
your call on what you prefer but IMO I couldn't tell the difference and 2 RWD 911s have served me well.

2)What are the service costs like ( I am used to around £1500-£2500 a year).
My C2 cost pretty much nothing to run - aside from fuel, insurance and tax which you'd pay on any car it worked out at 14p a mile for the 18 months I owned it. I'd say asuming nothing major breaks you can get away with £1k/year.

3)Looking in the 28-30K value,... will i get a good un for that?
Yep, it's a buyers market

4)Is the OPC warrenty any good?
Dunno, never had one but the likes of Ballcock and Vesuvious have had good experiences with them

5)Private sale or dealer?
Private sale with OPC inspection 'cos I'm a tight arse

It would only be fair to mention the 964RS for that budget if you are coming out of a Noble. Unless you need rear seats or the more modern water cooled advantages, you will find a vanilla C2/C4 quite dull compared to your last steed. However, you will not have any less excitement in a 964RS (see www.gtclassics.co.uk for current prices/stock).

Apologies for muddying the water as I personally hate it when people are after one car and another is suggested, but the Noble is a very exciting car to step out of, and normal C2s are a bit too refined and normal in comparison. Although they are very good - and better than an RS etc - if you want a daily driver.

Personal taste that one - could live with my RS as a daily although I'd be working to just pay for the fuel.

I used to use a 964RS as a daily driver, but I am a bit nuts. I commuted in a Caterham for two years, inc in the snow. I merely said the 996C2 is better as a daily driver, which it surely is.

Also, your profile suggests you drive a 993RS, which is more of a daily driver than the 964RS can claim to be. The 993RSs are noticeably softer on the road.

If the budget was 38-40k, not 10k less, I'd be suggesting a 993RS - surely a wonderful competitor to the much newer Noble.

1) Bigger boot on a C2, but insurance seems lower on the C4. I personally preferred the C2, but the C4 was never really an option due to the boot.
2) Well under that, especially if you've got a warranty.
3) Oh yes!
4) Saved me a fortune.
5) Lots of debate about this on here. You can get the same warranty, and same finance packages privately.

My recommendation would be to stretch your budget to £30k++ and try to seek out the best C2 3.6 'facelift'.

Probably a private purchase with extended Porsche Approved Warranty. If it doesn't have it, get it inspected and added (£750). Nice options are 18" wheels, PSM, audio upgrade etc, plus PSE, although you could add this later.

You'll spend more than you first intended, but it should be worth the extra.

thought 17" was standard, and 18" the upgrade most come with?

Thanks for the advice, will go for a test drive of both the C2 and C4. One last question, well three....
1) Must have options when buying/selling
2) Any places to avoid when buying one.
3) What is the cost of the 111 point check.

Once again thanks in advance for the advice

None, IMHO. The SatNavs are old and make no difference other than the screen looks nice. Avoid dark green and hearing aid beige. Vesuvius is worth at least £3k more...

2) Any places to avoid when buying one.

Buy one from either OPC, a RECOGNISED specialist or privately from an enthusiast. MAKE SURE you get the warranty.

3) What is the cost of the 111 point check.

£200 sheets approx. Then £725 for the warranty pa.

Once again thanks in advance for the advice

Depends on driver talent and/or lack of any mechanical sympathy.

Essentially no difference.
