Rev happy little beasts They sound gorgeous when they hit 5K RPM. A little under powered in a straight line blast, but that's not what they were built for. Show them a twisty road and they really come to life. If you can't run to an S they're an excellent introduction to the world of Porsche.

Try to get one with the Lux Pack, that included the leather, climate control and wind deflector. They're the things that you really want on a Boxster.

the sports exhaust is great

the bumper upgrade is also an advantage but only if they have changed the lenses from orange to clear, which makes the car look way more up-to-date

also 2.5 came on puny 16" wheels an upgrade (to Porsche ones not Kahn chrome 20"s with spinners) are a big+

can you really not stretch to the 2.7?

Great car! mine is for sale if you are interested,

www.pistonheads.com/sales/73229.htm

I spent a long time searching for the right car. A lot out there can be 'tacky' or not too well looked after. Ensure you get a full service history and that the car is 'standard'.

Good luck, if you may be interested in mine let me know

I've had quite a few 996's of late, and recently sold a 2.5 Boxster for a friend. I was very impressed with the car - it was lacking in power, yes, but, taken for what it is, it was fantastic. Can't recommend one enough - for the money, they're great value..... Good luck.....

And you forgot to mention that you've probably still got receipts dating back to about 2001 and it has one less owner than on the V5 as the original owner sold it to herself and leased it back.

And it's got the square-centred steering wheel, which is classic! A lot more characterful than the later three-spoke in my opinion.

Not sure about the insurance business though, I can't see it being appreciably cheaper than a 2.7. You'll get a lot more car for your money with a 2.5 though, they're generally pretty high spec.

I love mine.

And I also like the square centred wheel - far more classic porsche.

Don't see what the big deal is about the clear lenses is though. I think they look really good in their original orange.
Personally I like to keep cars original - they just look better and better as the years go by. No so with the overly "upgraded" examples.

Still if you want to be in with the in-crowd.

thanks for the advice, sounds as if i will be doing myself a good turn with a 2.5, currently driving a bmw convertible and miss a car that handles really well, the bmw is fine in a straight line but theres too much body roll round bends!! Insurance is quite different between a 2.5 and a 2.7 as im only 20 well nearly 21, cant wait to get hold of one, planning a trip for south of france next year in it hopefully!!!

On your profile it says you currently own a 2005 boxster so why are you looking at an older 2.5 if insurance is the problem??
