I have just come back from a test drive at Hatfield OPC. I wasn't expecting much difference from my 996, but how wrong I was.

The car feels totally different, the pick up is awesome and this one was manual and had the chrono package so the over boost with sports suspension made the car even quicker.

I have never managed to scare a salesperson on a test drive before, they normally drive it harder than me, but driving it the same way as my 996 the handling and speed was noticeably better, even on a relatively short run. The new turbo units give no turbo lag at all, and it goes to 1.2 bar in sports mode.

Has anyone got a spare £10k lying around I can borrow for the deposit?

Considering all the people getting delivery at the moment wouldn't have driven them first, there is nothing to be disappointed with.

look - you cant just go posting posts like that....you need to tow the line that its a lovely car the 997tt but not much better than the 996tt.... and certainly not worth the extra.......

Doh.....

Close ears.....

Doh.... Heard you the first time.....

How am I going to convince the wife that I now need a 997tt even though I promised the earth to get the 996tt and it would last me until im in the grave??

oh how familiar is that story. Having to make all the promises to the "war office" only to completely contradict yourself when something newer comes along.

Here is my story...

March 2006. Stumble across a C2. "its low mileage, the perfect spec and another similar car will not come along for years. This will be my final true car. No more messing, I will own this one for decades and will never need to lust after anything else automotive. I really think we should buy this dear - what do you think?"

Car purchased.

May 2006 - I drive a friends black areokit 996tt "S". Completely blown away. Now can't stop looking/lusting after anything built by Porsche after 2000 with twin turbos (that isnt a Cayenne)

August 2006 "well dear when I said that I would never need look at another car I perhaps was a little naive. The turbo wouldn't cost much more in insurance/fuel (said whilst trying to maintain a straight face/relaxed demeanour) and it really is a dream car......."

Needless to say, the C2 is still on the drive.
